PTR Acne Clearing Wash

Over the holidays, I definitely over-indulged in sugary foods and I didn’t take great care of my skin. Now, I’m trying to fix all the acne I caused with my poor lifestyle and stress. This feels like an unending battle, but I’m glad that I finally found a gentle but effective cleanser to help me: the Peter Thomas Roth Acne Clearing Wash which can be purchased from Sephora for $38 for an 8.5 oz bottle.

First, I love that the bottle is so huge! Since you only need a little of this cleanser, the bottle is sure to last for a good while, which is nice since it’s not the cheapest cleanser. I also really love the citrusy scent. So many acne products smell horrible, but this one smells really light and fresh.

While the cleanser does contain salicylic acid to clear up acne, it does not contain any alcohol or dye. This is great because leaving out those ingredients means this cleanser is less likely to dry out your skin. Indeed, I’ve found that my skin is not at all dry after using this cleanser (even though it’s winter!)

I’ve definitely noticed a difference in my acne since using this cleanser, so I highly recommend it. It’s so easy to use and lathers well, plus it has a great scent and doesn’t dry out this skin. This one is definitely a keeper!

Moda Mythical Crease Brush

I received this adorable Moda Mythical Crease Brush in one of my latest Allure Beauty Boxes, and I was incredibly impressed with the brush quality and low price. This eyeshadow crease brush is part of a 5-piece set that retails for $20 at the Royal and Langnickel website as well as other online retailers.

Besides the beautiful aesthetic of the brush, I was also very impressed by how well the brush worked. It was very densely packed with bristles, but the bristles were very soft. I’ve been using the brush for blending for a while now, and it works incredibly well. Blending is very easy. I was worried that the size of the brush would be slightly too large for the crease, but this just wasn’t the case, and the blending capability also helps in case you go overboard with the crease color. I also haven’t experienced any brush shedding, and it’s been very easy to clean the brush. Overall, this is a great budget brand for makeup brushes, and I love the cute design!

Pixi Lip Tint and Gloss

Everyone loves a long-lasting lip color, but so many products have the unfortunate side effect of drying out lips and making them look all cracked and damaged. I find it’s always a balance between finding a nourishing product and one that gets a decent amount of wear between reapplication. Recently, I found a hybrid product that I just had to try: the Pixi by Petra GelTint & SilkGloss. This product can be purchased from Target for only $12.

I was very curious about how the gel texture would feel on the lips, and I was pleasantly surprised that it dries down without really drying out the lips too much. It is very sheer, so you have to kind of wait for it to dry and then layer it to get a color with much impact, so that is definitely a drawback. The light pink gloss is also very pretty and sparkly and isn’t sticky like some glosses. Overall, I liked this product, but it wasn’t without it’s flaws. It was very difficult to get a uniform opaque color, and I’ve found that the amount of time it takes to apply this product just doesn’t seem worth it. In the end, I did really like the gloss it came with though, so I’ve been using that alone for a while now.

Are there any long-wear lip options that you’ve found to work without drying out your lips? Be sure to let me know in the comments section!

Maybelline Master Contour

I am such a sucker for contouring. I love the idea of making my cheek bones look higher and my nose look thinner with this fun makeup trick of creating highlights and shadows. I’ve used some high end products as my staples, but I thought I’d give a drugstore palette a go to see if it could stack up against the Sephora favorites. I decided to go with the Maybelline Master Contour Palette which comes with a blush, highlighter, and bronzer. This set can be purchased from Target or other drugstores for $9. Since I’m very pale, I purchased the palette in Light-Medium shades.

Overall, I was impressed by this product. The brush that it comes with is pretty much worthless, so I used my other brushes. While the texture of the powders was a little chalky and not as finely milled as I prefer, it did blend really well. The blush was a nice shade that had just the right amount of pigment and was easy to use for a natural finish. The highlighter was the star here, and I loved the light shimmer it gave me. The bronzer wasn’t bad. It could have used a bit more pigment, but it was very buildable so it still worked. If you’re on a budget, I would definitely give this palette a chance!

Zoella Blissful Mistful Solid Fragrance

So, full disclosure: Zoella (AKA Zoe Sugg) is my favorite Youtuber. I love her channel and I think she’s so inspirational. When I saw her products in Target, I got super excited and I just had to try something, so I bought the Zoella Blissful Mistful Solid Fragrance. This product can be purchased at Target for $6.

This solid perfume has a very light, floral scent that I really liked when I smelled it in the tin. Unfortunately, it didn’t really react well to my body chemistry and ended up smelling kind of sour on me. I’m not sure if that’s the best way to describe it, but basically it just smelled strange on me but smelled nice in the tin. That was disappointing, but it’s not really the product’s fault. Fragrance is all about chemistry, and since everyone’s body is just a little bit different, it can be hard to predict how one person will react to a fragrance. I do think that it’s worth a try for others, and I hope to find someone I can give my tin to who can appreciate the fragrance.

I definitely want to try a different Zoella product since this one didn’t work out. Do any of you have any suggestions for some of her products that you have loved? Maybe a bath-themed one?

Sinful Colors Lie-lac

I am already super sick of winter! I don’t know about you, but I loathe snow (especially trying to drive in it), so I’m already looking forward to spring. In preparation, here is the nail polish color I’m most excited for this spring: Sinful Colors in Lie-Lac. This nail polish can be purchased from Target and most drug stores for only $2.

My picture definitely doesn’t do this one justice. It’s such a pretty purple shade, although it does have some grey undertones. I think it’s so pretty but also very professional. It’s a very versatile shade that can be played up or down, and it should work on both fingers and toes.

I love the Sinful Colors brand because they’re so inexpensive that I can never feel guilty for buying more shades. They also tend to dry really quickly, which is something I love. My nail polish chips badly no matter if I spend $1 or $15 so I can’t really say it chips less than other polishes, but it doesn’t seem to chip more either. Overall, I’m always really happy with this brand.

Kiss Me! Bath Bombs

Happy New Year! I fully intended to start things off with a bang this year, but I’ve been struck with the worst cold I can remember having. Being sick is really boring, but resting is one of the best things you can do when you’re sick. So, for this post I wanted to talk about some bath bombs that can help soothe you when you’re sickly: The Kiss Me! Bath Bombs which can be purchased from Target for about $7-10 per a bag of 6.

Target sells a lot of different scents, but I picked the Country Rose ones. They have a really nice, light scent that remind me of spring garden parties. One bath bomb can sufficiently scent a whole bath which is nice, and I found that it didn’t dry my skin out too much.

Overall, this is a nice choice for a soothing bath!

Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Thanks for sticking with me during a kind of disappointing blogmas. I’m back now with a great product that will help battle dry skin: Jergens Wet Skin Moisturizer. This product can be purchased at Target for about $7.

As far as drugstore lotions go, this is one of my favorites. As the name suggests, it works best on wet skin (so right after you get out of the shower). A little goes a long way, and it really absorbs into the skin so quickly with no greasy residue. I like the version with Monoi Oil because it leaves this light, floral scent behind, but there are other versions as well: coconut oil, argan oil, cherry almond oil, and a natural glow self-tanner.

This is a very lightweight moisturizer that may not be enough to completely eradicate winter dry skin, but it provides a nice base of moisture and then you can spot treat dryer areas with a more powerful lotion. I think this one is perfect for the summer though.

What are your favorite inexpensive lotions? Feel free to share in the comments section.

Blogmas Day 24: Sephora Cream Lip Stain

Welcome to the very last day of Blogmas: Day 24! It’s Christmas Eve! I hope everyone is just as excited as I am for Christmas. I can’t believe it’s almost over though. I feel like every year it comes faster and faster. Anyway, I opened my final Sephora Advent Calendar Panel and I received a full-sized Sephora Cream Lip Stain in this very pretty red shade. This product can be purchased for $14 (but only in a peach shade since all other shades have been discontinued).

I can see why these were discontinued. They dry out the lips just as bad as any other lip stain, but they also never really dry down so they smudge terribly and don’t actually last all that long. I do find the shade pretty, but it’s so messy that I found it nearly impossible to apply.

Overall, this advent calendar was a big bust! It made me feel really disappointed in Sephora because I feel like they could have done a much better job really easily. If you’re selling it in the US, then include products you can purchase in the US. Also, the amount of discontinued products made me feel like I was essentially receiving Sephora’s leftovers that they wanted to clean out of their warehouse instead of just throwing them away. There’s no way I’ll be purchasing this again next year unless there is a substantial change in quality.

Thanks so much for sticking with these Blogmas blogs! I hope everyone has a really Lovely Christmas! I’ll be back with another blog post on Wednesday.

Blogmas Day 23: Sephora Eyeshadow

Welcome to Day 23 of Blogmas! It’s just two days until Christmas. I hope everyone has been enjoying the Holiday Season and that you’re all ready for the big day. Today’s penultimate advent calendar panel revealed a Full-Sized Colorful Eyeshadow in the shade Tiramisu. I couldn’t find this shade of their website, but you can purchase other shades for $10.

I was excited when I saw this eyeshadow. It’s a bit shimmery, but seems like a great crease shade. When I tried it, it was unfortunately a little patchy, so you have to really blend it out to get it even. I have tried the Sephora brand eyeshadows before and this has never been an issue, so I’m wondering if maybe this one was just old (especially since I couldn’t find it on the website).
