Too Faced Glitter Bomb Eyeshadow Collection

Full disclosure: I love glitter and I am utterly biased towards products that contain glitter. So, when I saw the Too Faced Glitter Bomb Eyeshadow Collection at Sephora, I didn’t blink at the $45 price tag and immediately purchased it!

A lot of beauty bloggers have complained about this palette, so I’d just like to start by addressing their two complaints. First, people have been complaining that the colors aren’t pigmented enough. I love these pigments! They are very buildable and you can use water or the black base to intensify the colors. Second, people complain about glitter fallout. There is some fallout (unless you apply with water – more explanation of that later) but I don’t care because I love glitter. If I see flecks of glitter on my cheeks during the afternoon because of this eyeshadow, I am totally okay with that because it’s just the sparkle and not the color that has been migrating.

So, now I’m going to explain the three different ways that you can apply these:

  1. Apply the glitter eyeshadows by themselves with a brush – this results in a sheer wash of color with lots of sparkle. This is perfect for daytime looks. Yes, there will be some fallout of glitter, but you can just imagine that it’s some extra highlight on your cheeks.
  2. Apply the glitter eyeshadows on top of the white or black bases – this will intensify the colors. The white will brighten up the color and enhance the glitter while the black will intensify the color and make it much darker and more dramatic. I was terrified to do this at first because black is such a harsh color, but it worked so well. First, I applied the white base on my lid from the crease to the brow bone and then covered it with the shade “Fairy Dust.” Then I applied the black on every part of the eyelid below the crease and then put the shade “Glitter Goals” on top. It was so vivid! Yes, there was still some fallout, but I loved my super dramatic evening look.
  3. Apply the glitter eyeshadows with a wet brush – this really intensifies the glitter and color without making it darker. The water (or you can use makeup setting spray instead) fuses with the glitter like a glue and can help to prevent fallout. It also leaves a more crystalline look for maximum glitter impact!

I have absolutely zero regrets about buying this palette! Will I use it every day? No. But I love it for when I want to experiment with more dramatic colors. I highly recommend it for glitter enthusiasts like myself.

Tresemmé Heat Tamer

Do you blow dry, straighten, or curl your hair? If so, you should really consider using some sort of heat protection spray. The heat from these types of hair tools can seriously damage hair over time, resulting in split ends, breakage, and frizziness. To combat this, you can spritz a heat protection spray right before you use your blow dryer, straightener, or curling iron. My favorite right now is the Tresemmé Heat Tamer, which you can buy at Target or similar stores for only $4 per 8 oz bottle.

I can definitely tell a difference when I use this product versus when I don’t use it. When I use this spray, my hair looks shinier and healthier after I’ve straightened my hair. When I don’t use it, sometimes my hair looks kind of frizzy and not nearly as shiny. I also love how this spray helps to prevent inevitable split ends. Of course, your ends are going to get split eventually whether you use this or not, but I’ve found that using this product can definitely help me avoid needing a haircut too soon. Finally, this product also smells really nice – just like a hair salon! It smells clean but is not overly perfumed.

What types of products do you use to avoid hair damage? Be sure to let me know in the comments section!

Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Day Tint

Get ready to learn about my absolute favorite beauty product: Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Day Tint! That’s right – of the hundreds of makeup and skincare products that I have used, this is my very favorite one!

This product can be purchased from Sephora. You’ll get 1.7 oz for $48, which is quite expensive for a tinted moisturizer. However, this product has been a complete game changer for me. Not only does it look great, but it also seems to be transforming my skin.

This is a very neutral tinted moisturizer with SPF 15. Now, one unfortunate thing is that it only comes in one shade. I’m very pale, and this works for me, but I think it would also work for people slightly darker than me. However, if you have much darker or tanner skin, this would probably wash you out and make you look ghostly.

I find that this product just really sinks into the skin beautifully. It provides a very light amount of coverage, but it looks so natural and great. Here’s a story to explain: my love Josh was hungry one day and wanted me to hurry up a bit so we could get some takeout, but I wanted to put something with SPF on my face first. I went into the bathroom to apply some makeup, and he followed me in. After I put this on, he remarked, “Wow. It doesn’t look like you put any makeup on at all, but your skin looks so much better.” He then paused and asked if that had been insulting. I laughed and replied, “Nope. That’s what great makeup does.”

Side note: On blemish-heavy days, I typically pick up a product with more coverage because this does not cover large imperfections.

So, besides the natural finish of this product, what I love even more is that this product makes my skin look better over time. A few times, I have applied this at night and left it on overnight (something you’re really not supposed to do with makeup), but each time, my skin has looked so much better the next morning! That’s because this is some serious skincare. It contains ceramides that help moisturize the skin. Ceramides are lipids that actually make up part of your skin – they literally bind skin cells together. Whoever decided to include this in skincare products was a genius! Using this product has really helped my skin over the time I’ve been using it. My skin feels more moisturized but does not appear oily, and I can tell that the ceramides have been helping to smooth my skin long after this product has been washed off.

Now, if you want to experience the joy of ceramides without the tinted compenent, Dr.Jart+ does also make a Ceramidin Cream that is not tinted and contains no SPF. I absolutely plan to buy this once I use up my current moisturizer. I’m hoping that using it at night and using the Day Tint in the day will really make a difference in my skin.

Have you used anything by this great Korean skincare brand? What did you think?

It Cosmetics Superhero Mascara

I’ve tried a lot of mascaras in my day, but they still fascinate me. It’s amazing how much of a difference the shape of a brush or the formulation of the mascara can transform lashes. Recently, I received a deluxe sample of It Cosmetics Superhero Elastic Stretch Volumizing Mascara from Sephora. The full-sized version of this product can be purchased for $24, which is pretty average for a mascara at Sephora.

I had high hopes for this mascara because I have really enjoyed other products I’ve tried from It Cosmetics, but this one was a disappointment. While I did like how the brush was stiff and seemed to separate my lashes while brushing through them, I just hated the formulation of this product! It took so long to dry and I felt like it smudged a lot both initially and throughout the day. It also did not make my eyelashes look longer or more voluminous – the two primary claims that it says it will do. Overall, this was just a bust for me, although I know that mascara is very personal, so I’m sure this is just fantastic for some people. Personally, I care more about curl than length, and I just can’t deal with mascaras that take too long to dry!

In summary, here’s the pros and cons for this product:

Pros:

  • I liked the brush.
  • My eyelashes did not clump.
  • The color is very dark, which I found flattering.

Cons:

  • Very wet formulation that took too long to dry.
  • Smudged like crazy!

Have you tried this mascara? If so, did it work better for you than it did me? What’s your favorite mascara?

Kevin Aucoin Eyelash Curler

My eyelashes have a lot of natural volume, but they just don’t curl easily. They seem to just jut straight out, and most curlers don’t do much for me. I used to love the Shu Uemura curlers when they were sold at Sephora, but I had to stop using them when they stopped selling in the USA. You can now buy them again in the USA, but something about them is just different. I’ve tried several other eyelash curlers in recent years, and so far the best one I’ve used is the Kevin Aucoin Eyelash Curler.

This eyelash curler can be purchased from Sephora for $21. It comes with one replacement pad and it will lasts about 8-12 months before it loses grip and needs to be repurchased. (The grip tightness of an eyelash curler determines how well it actually curls).

I do think that this eyelash curler curls my eyelashes really well, and the curl seems to last longer with this product than with the Shiseido or Sephora brand curlers. It’s easy to get this really close to the root line of the eyelashes without pinching your eyelid, and the grip is really tight. I’ve repurchased it a few times now, and I’ve been pretty happy with it.

I am still open to suggestions if anyone has a great recommendation! What is your favorite eyelash curler?

Yes to Tomatoes Charcoal Mask

I have really grown to love sheet masks! I’ve had so many from Sephora, but there are some great drugstore options too! One of the best from the drugstore is the Yes to Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Paper Mask which you can get from Target or similar stores for only $2.50.

I have to give a shout out to my friend Katie who first gave me one of these. It’s amazing! This mask really makes my pores look less noticeable and my skin feels much smoother after using this. Now, it does tingle a little bit, but it’s not a painful kind of reaction. I haven’t noticed any skin irritation even with the tingle.

Besides the price point and the skin benefits, I also love how large the eye and mouth holes are. I don’t like putting products too close to my eyes unless they’re meant for eyes, so I appreciate that I don’t have to worry about accidentally getting this product in my eyes or mouth.

I definitely would recommend this to anyone who has acne or large pores. It works really well and can definitely compete with Sephora sheet masks. For under $3, it is definitely worth trying!

Have you tried this product, or do you have another favorite sheet mask? Please, let me know if the comments section.

Origins Super Spot Remover

I love the Origins skincare brand from Sephora because the products are more natural and plant-based than other brands, and their products never seem to break me out. Recently, I picked up the Origins Super Spot Remover treatment gel from Sephora for $17.

This container is TINY and contains only 0.3 oz of product (but this is the full-size of the product). It contains a concentration of salicylic acid, and can easily be dabbed onto blemishes. I do think that this product worked well. I noticed that my spots definitely healed faster with this product than without this product. However, it was very drying and I had to start using a heavier moisturizer. The small container also didn’t last very long (maybe two months for me).

This is a nice product and it does what it claims to, but I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing. While it helped my acne, the results weren’t astounding. I also didn’t care for the dryness and how little product you get, but I think this would be a great spot treatment for someone who only gets the occasional zit. If you only have a small area to treat, I think this could work really well for you!

What are your favorite acne treatment products?

Kailijumei Flower Jelly Lipsticks!

I first read about the Kailijumei Flower Jelly lipsticks in an article that went viral from Cosmo. They are super pretty and clear with flecks of gold and a small flower at the base of the lipstick. I was instantly intrigued and knew I just had to try them!

You can find several sellers on Amazon that stock this product. Depending on the seller, I’ve seen these range from $23 for one tube to $32 for 4 tubes, so if you decide to pick one up, do shop around to find the best price!

These are really pretty to look at, and they come in a neat red chrome tube. I bought the Flame Red, Dream Purple, and Barbie Doll shades. Now, these lipsticks are supposed to adjust to the perfect shade of whichever color you buy, but honestly they all look EXACTLY the same: a medium pink that leaves a sheer stain on the lips. I tried to swatch them on my hand, but it just wouldn’t photograph right. It basically looks like a your-lips-but-better shade of pink that has a great lasting power! Personally, I love this shade of pink, although it’s kind of disappointing that the red and purple also look pink.

The finish on this product is a semi-matte. It’s not drying, but it also will not moisturize the lips at all. The color is more of a tint than an opaque shade, but I think I’m going to really like it for more natural-looking days! I’ve worn it a few times now, and I’m happy with it, but I don’t think this product is for everyone. Those who are looking for something noticeably pigmented (which I think most people look for in a lipstick) will probably be disappointed. The bottom line is that this product is more of a novelty than anything. It’s not great as a lipstick unless you’re looking for something really sheer and you don’t need an added kick of moisture. Ultimately, this was fun to try, and I’m definitely going to keep one of the tubes I bought, but it’s just an okay product.

What do you think? Have you bought any interesting novelty products lately?

Tresemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo is a life saver for people like me who sometimes get oily roots. I’ve searched high and low for the perfect one, and I finally found it: Tresemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo!

I love literally every aspect of this product! First, the price point: you can pick it up at Target or similar stores for only $5. It also smells fresh and amazing but isn’t overly perfumed – this means it won’t conflict with any other fragrance products you may choose to wear.

The best quality, however, is the fact that it is CLEAR! That’s right, if you use this product correctly (which means spraying it lightly and not holding it really close to your roots) then there is no residue! And if you do happen to spray it too generously or too closely, you can just rub it a teeny bit and it disappears and still dries clear. This is just so amazing because most dry shampoos leave a weird filmy white residue no matter what I do, and brown tinted dry shampoos can stain skin or clothing.

I like the volumizing aspect because it helps my hair have a bit more life to it (I have thin hair, but lot’s of it!) However, if you have thick hair or just don’t want more volume, Tresemmé also has a Basic Care version that absorbs oil and freshens up your hair without this aspect.

Have you tried this product, or do you have a favorite dry shampoo? Please, let me know in the comments section!

Miss Dior Moisturizing Body Milk

Perfumes are so personal – scents can exude how we’re feeling or how we want to feel. Everyone looks for different things when it comes to scent, but I wanted to share my current favorite scented product: Miss Dior Moisturizing Body Milk. A 6.8 oz bottle can be purchased from Sephora for $52.

This scent makes me feel so feminine and happy. It’s sensual and has notes of Italian mandarin, rose, and patchouli. Overall, the scent is very floral, which I love. I decided to go with the lotion because I feel like scents last longer on my skin when they’re applied in lotion form instead of a traditional perfume or body spray.

While this product is marketed as being very moisturizing, I don’t try to use this as a daily body lotion. I’m afraid that the scent would be overwhelming if you applied it everywhere, and it really isn’t the most moisturizing lotion out there. Rather, I find it best to put on a scentless body lotion everywhere (like Bliss Naked Body Butter), and then follow that up with this lotion just on your pulse points (behind the ears, the inside of your elbows, between the cleavage, and on your wrists). When I do that, the scent seems to last all day long!

What scents are you currently loving? Do you have a signature scent, or do you like to change it up?
