Boscia Detoxifying Black Cleanser

Boscia is definitely one of my favorite beauty brands. It is mostly natural, and seems gentle enough for my sensitive skin. I haven’t encountered any products from this brand that make my acne worse.

This product is the Detoxifying Black Cleanser, which retails at Sephora for $28. The most prominent ingredient in this product is charcoal, which is a great product for acne. In order to get a lather, you’ll need to add water. I’ve found that, because the product is so sticky, it works best to put the water on your face before the cleanser or to put the cleanser on your hand and then add water before applying to your face. As the product touches skin, it actually does heat up gently which is kind of fun.

Overall, I think this is a nice product. I think that it has definitely helped my acne. It does a nice job at removing makeup. However, it is not without its downsides. The stickiness is kind of weird. Also, the stickiness causes the pump to clog frequently, which is very inconvenient. If the pump does cause, it will help if you remove the cap and run the pump and tube under warm water for a while. You can also just unscrew the cap and use the tube to shovel product out into your hand. It’s not the most glamorous method of using this product, but it does work. Ultimately, because of the issues with the tube clogging, I feel like too much of this product goes to waste. If the product’s packaging could be redone with a different method of dispensing, I think that would be a huge plus. As it is though, I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing this one because I don’t like to feel wasteful and the stickiness is off-putting. However, I do like how it helps my skin, which is the ultimate the goal of skincare. Still, I’d prefer to find a different product in the future.

Why Can’t I Give You Up?

We all have those products that we don’t use but we can’t bring ourselves to throw away. Sometimes, we keep products out of guilt because they were expensive. Sometimes, we keep products out of nostalgia because they remind us of a special time in our lives.

The one product I never ever wear but I can’t throw away is this extremely sparkly lipgloss from Sephora:

The picture doesn’t even do this one justice. This is chunky lip glitter in the brightest pink imaginable. It looks like it might belong on a porn star, yet this librarian can’t seem to toss it. But why? I can’t remember ever wearing it in public – except for maybe at the mall the day I bought it. It’s not anything spectacular as a gloss and I bought it super cheap on clearance.

Should I just throw it away? What is the shelf life on a lipgloss anyway?

I think that perhaps the reason I can’t get rid of it is that I want to be able to pull it off. I want to make a trashy product classy. But I just don’t think I can – I don’t have the right confidence and charisma to pull it off. But I keep it just in case someday I do.

Do you have a product you can’t part with? Tell me about it in the comments section.

Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm

Dearest Readers,

I’m back! The past six months have been INSANE. I feel like a completely new person. I’ve learned a lot of life lessons and I feel like I’ve recaptured my joy and focus in life. I also starting working on an MFA in creative writing since writing has always been my one true love. So, to reward you for your patience while I rebuilt my life, I give you the ultimate beauty find from the past six months: Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm

I cannot say enough good things about this product. Yes, it’s an expensive BB cream $39.00 1.5 oz. but it is a true skin saver. It has SPF 45, and it seamlessly blends in with the skin (something that is a struggle for most products with high SPF). It has a very good amount of coverage for a BB cream as well. It can’t completely cover my most stubborn of zits, but it does a great job at smoothing out my complexion and covering up minor imperfections. It also lasts all day, although this is most likely to happen if you use a dusting of finishing powder.

This is hands down the best BB cream I have ever used. I was initially nervous because it only comes in two shades, so I had to go with “light/medium.” Usually, anything with the word “medium” is too dark for my pale, cadaverous skin, but this one really blended well. It’s also versatile because my BFF with a genuinely medium skin tone can use the product just as well.

I definitely don’t have to use a separate morning moisturizer when using this product because it is very moisturizing. However, I have never looked oily after using this product. I do use finishing powder with this product (as I mentioned earlier) but that is to extend the coverage of the product and not because I require additional oil control with this product. I have combination skin that leans towards oiliness on my forehead and dryness on my cheeks, so this is the perfect product to balance my whole face. However, someone with very dry skin might need to use a moisturizer underneath the product, and someone with very oily skin might need to always use a powder over the product.

I started with a small sample bottle from Sephora, which quickly evolved into purchasing a full-sized item. And I’ve just repurchased another full-sized container in last week’s VIB Rouge sale (because I couldn’t pass up the 20% off option since I know this is a keeper!)

The only drawback to this product is about the packaging and not the product itself. The tube is hard and not squeezable, so it’s hard to tell how much product is left in the container. Also, because it is not a squeezable tube, it dispenses with a pump. Pumps can be prone to faultiness and often result in a bit of wasted product, which is a big bummer since this product is a bit expensive. However, I’ve found that shaking vigorously can help with the flow, and the pump can pop off so that you can clean the pump in warm water if it gets clogged. While the pump is off, you can also peer down into the tube and get some idea of how much product is left.

If I was told I could only ever promote ONE beauty product for the rest of my life or until it is discontinued (the product – not my life), I would absolutely choose to promote this product!
