Clinique Pep-Start Hydroblur Moisturizer

It’s going to be winter soon! This means that moisturizer is going to become extra important in any skincare routine (although, it really should be important year-round). I recently tried a different moisturizer: the Clinique Pep-Start Hydroblur Moisturizer which can be purchased from Sephora for $30.

One great thing about the Clinique brand is that they have great, quality products for more affordable prices than other Sephora-based brands. I find that this moisturizer is no exception. It does a great job at moisturizing and would work well as a primer. The “blur” effect is noticeable and allows makeup to sit really well on the skin. It fills in all the nooks and crannies that pop up on a face to create a smooth canvas.

I do think that this is a lighter moisturizer. Some people with dry skin might find that it doesn’t quite pack enough of a punch for them. My skin is pretty normal/combination and does not get extremely dry, so I find that it works well for me. I would think that it would be a good moisturizer for oily skin as well because the “blur” properties also make it look a bit mattified even though it’s moisturizing.

Have you tried this one? What’s your current go-to moisturizer? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Tonymoly Hydrating Lotus Sheet Mask

Sheet masks are a fun way to relax at the end of a hard day. They provide lots of skincare benefits, but they tend to be very gentle on the skin. Recently, I tried this adorable Pokemon-themed sheet mask: the Tonymoly Lotus Hydrating Sheet Mask. You can get this sheet mask for about $5 at Walmart and similar retailers.

First off, I really liked this sheet mask because it actually made my skin feel incredibly moisturized. It had a very soothing quality and left my skin looking more supple and feeling more hydrated. Anyone with dry skin will definitely love this one!

There were two drawbacks though. First, it was kind of hard to unfold this mask and apply it because it was so slippery and wet. Secondly, also in relation to the wetness, I found that this mask dripped a lot which is not something I’m used to with sheet masks. I didn’t mind that it dripped from my chin to my chest, but it was irritating how it dripped in my nose area. I felt like I was inhaling it, and I kept trying to brush it away from this area. I’m not sure why there was so much product saturating this mask. I haven’t noticed this in other Tonymoly masks that I’ve used.

Have you used this one? What’s your favorite sheet mask? Please, let me know in the comment section!

Maybelline Fit Me! Foundation

A while ago, I mentioned that I was trying a bunch of drugstore foundations to review. It’s been an interesting experience because I’m just so used to ridiculously expensive foundations from Sephora, but I’ve found a few gems. One such gem is the Maybelline Fit Me! Matte + Poreless Foundation, which can be purchased from Target and similar stores for only $6.

Now, this foundation is not without its flaws, but I’m just stunned that something can perform so well and cost only $6! I was very impressed by the range of shades in this foundation line. They also have two different formulations. I purchased the Matte + Poreless one because I hate looking oily, but they also have a Dewy + Smooth formula if you’re someone who has drier skin or you just prefer a dewy finish.

There are two drawbacks to this foundation. First, it doesn’t last all day. I do find that about halfway through the work day, I feel like the foundation has pretty much completely faded away. Also, I find that I have to apply quite a bit of this foundation in order to get my desired look. But, still, it is only $6 so I don’t mind having to put on a few extra coats.

Overall, I do like this foundation. It blends very easily with the assistance of my damp beauty blender. It creates a medium-coverage, natural-looking finish. Also, it covers my acne pretty well, so I don’t need to use as much concealer afterwards. If you’re on a budget and you need a great foundation, I think this one is a pretty safe bet!

Have you tried this foundation? What did you think? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Quench Lip Rescue

I love lip products! There’s just something about putting color on the lips that makes a makeup look feel put together. Recently, I obtained the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Quench Lip Rescue in the shade Nude. This product can be purchased from Sephora for $19.

This one is quickly becoming one of my favorite lip products. It glides on so easily and covers the lips with a  sheer wash of color. It definitely helps lips to feel more moisturized and nourished. Long after the color has faded, the lips feel softer and healthier. The color doesn’t last a terribly long time, but that’s the trade off of having a nourishing formula. I definitely don’t mind reapplying this one throughout the day because it also has this amazing minty smell that I love.

Overall, I highly recommend this one to anyone looking for a moisturizing lipstick with just a touch of color. I would love to purchase more shades of this one, especially the shades Rose and Cherry. Tarte is also one of the more natural brands at Sephora, so I always love when I find one of their products that I love because I know it isn’t filled with tons of chemicals.

Have any of you tried this one or any other Tarte lipsticks? Please, let me know your thoughts in the comment section!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lipgloss

I tend to gravitate more towards lipsticks than lip glosses, but I do love the look of a gloss. I like shiny lips, and I love that lip glosses don’t seem to dry out my lips like long-wear lipsticks can. However, I hate when glosses are too sticky in texture. Recently, I was able to try the Anastasia Beverly Hills Lip Gloss. These can be purchased from Sephora for $16.

Anastasia Beverly Hills is a brand that rose to fame because of their great eyebrow products, but recently they’ve been putting out more and more other products that are getting rave reviews. I’m so glad that I tried this lip gloss because I’m pretty sure it’s become one of my favorite lip glosses of all time. First, it doesn’t feel very sticky on the lips. My lips just feel a bit slick with moisture after using this gloss, but I don’t find that they feel sticky. Also, the pigmentation is incredible. One little swipe packs a huge punch of color. It totally looks like it has the opacity of a lipstick. Finally, these are incredibly long lasting. After the wet feeling has faded, and even after eating a whole meal, there is still color on my lips – and it still looks even! I’ve been ridiculously impressed by how well this lip gloss works, and I definitely would like to buy more colors.

There are some cons to this product though. For one, the color selection is disappointing and filled only with neutrals and berries. I’d love to see more pink, red, and coral options to round out the line. Also, I don’t care for the smell of the product. It smells like a strange mix of cake batter and chemicals. I can definitely live with the smell, but I just wanted to let everyone know in case you feel very strongly about scents in your makeup products.

Have you tried this gloss? What’s your very favorite lip gloss? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Clean & Clear Deep Action Oil-Free Cream Cleanser

The other day, I was at the drugstore walking through the skincare aisle. Of all the expensive and inexpensive cleansers I’ve used over the years, I’ve never found one that I feel particularly loyal to. I have never used a cleanser that seemed to be solely responsible for helping my skin. In fact, most of the time, nothing changes about my skin when I change cleansers. Because of that, I’ve become a bit disillusioned when it comes to cleansers. As long as my skin feels clean at the end of the day, I’m pretty happy. Because of that, I decided to take a chance on a $5 cleanser from the drugstore: the Clean & Clear Deep Action Oil-Free Cream Cleanser.

This cleanser promises a tingling sensation which I thought was odd. Usually, you don’t want your skincare to burn you or cause tingling sensations. However, this just kind of makes your skin feel cold and minty. I don’t know if it is cleansing my pores more deeply, but I do love the scent. It’s kind of minty mixed with something else (maybe eucalyptus?)

The main attraction of this cleanser is that it is oil-free. I know that lots of people with acne-prone skin find that certain oils can help their acne, but I find that almost anything with oil breaks me out further. I’m happy to report that this cleanser has not caused my acne to get worse at all. I don’t think it’s making it any better though either.

Overall, I like this cleanser. My skin feels clean after I use it, it smells great, and it’s only $5. Will I repurchase it? Probably not. As I said at the beginning of this post, I don’t yet have any loyalty towards one specific cleanser.

What about you? Do you have a holy grail cleanser that you absolutely swear by? I’d love to know!

Sephora Green Tea Eye Mask

I feel like I take pretty good care of the skin underneath my eyes. I’ve been using undereye cream since I was 16, and I try to be very gentle with the skin around that area. Still, I was excited when I received the Sephora Green Tea Eye Mask which comes with two fiber patches to place underneath the eyes in order to relax and refresh the skin. This one-time use mask can be purchased from Sephora for $5.

I was surprised at how easy this product was to use. I was afraid that the small fiber patches would slide around or fall off, but they really stayed in place. I was able to move about and sit up and watch TV with these patches underneath my eyes. After about 20 minutes, I decided to remove them. I rubbed the excess product into the skin. I can’t say that anything dramatic seemed to happen for my skin. It maybe seemed a bit more moisturized but no brighter than before. I don’t tend to have puffy undereyes, but I could see how this formula would be able to help with that.

Overall, this was a fun little product because it felt luxurious to have a specific mask for under the eyes. Still, I don’t think it really did anything, so I’m not sure I can recommend it as anything other than a novelty.

Have you tried an undereye mask? What did you think?

Herbivore Blue Tansy  Resurfacing Clarity Mask

I’ve been wanting to try Herbivore products ever since they appeared at Sephora. They are made with really natural ingredients and have amassed quite the cult following. However, they are also pretty expensive, so I waited to buy one until I had something to celebrate. Recently, I allowed myself a celebratory splurge after getting a raise at work, so I decided to indulge in the Herbivore Blue Tansy Resurfacing Clarity Mask, which is supposed to be great for acne-prone skin. This mask can be purchased from Sephora for $48.

My first impressions were kind of unpleasant because I realized the moment I opened the container that the stench was overwhelming. It smells really bad. I’ve been struggling with how to describe the scent, but I think it kind of smells like something sour mixed with menthol and sulfur. It’s bad, but I can honestly say that after using this mask several days in a row, I kind of got used to the scent. The first few times, the scent was so powerful it made me angry, but the next few times, I didn’t really notice it after I applied the mask. So, at least it’s something you can get used to, and you don’t smell it after you wash the mask off.

As for the results of the mask, I was very pleased! This contains natural AHA and BHA acids, which promote cell turnover. After using the product every day for a week, my skin seemed clearer and smoother. It definitely helped my acne over time. Still, though you don’t get instant results, I like that this mask is gentle enough to use every day, although they suggest using it three times a week or once a week. This mask reminded me a lot of the Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask, which smells better and is possibly more potent. So, if you can’t handle the smell of this mask, I would recommend trying that one instead.

Overall, I like this product because of the results. AHA and BHA acids are really important parts of my skincare routine since they help reduce the appearance of acne scars over time. I do like the results of this mask since my skin feels smoother, and I like that it is gentle so I can use it daily if I want to. I think I’ll repurchase this when it runs out, especially since I know now that I can handle the smell. I swear it doesn’t last after the mask is washed off!

The Porefessional Primer

Benefit is one of my favorite brands at Sephora. I think they have some really fun, innovative products, and I appreciate that they’re less expensive than some other brands at Sephora. Recently, I tried Benefit’s The POREfessional Face Primer, which seems to be a very polarizing product among beauty bloggers. This primer can be purchased at Sephora for $31.

This primer is supposed to smooth skin and reduce the look of pores. It also contains Vitamin E which is great for skin. Now, I don’t really have overly large pores, so it’s hard for me to judge that, but I do love primers that smooth since I have some acne scars. I thought that this worked really well. It feels quite silky and definitely smoothed my skin. It also is oil-free which is great for acne-prone skin. I’ve used it under several different foundations, and it seems to perform well for me no matter if the foundation is dry in formulation or luminous. The reason I test primers with different types of foundations is because some primers that have a silky texture (like this one) don’t always work well with foundations that have similar textures. So, adding two silky products might cause skin to look overly oily and they may melt off during the day which would make them less long-lasting. However, that did not seem to be the case with this product. It performed well with several different foundation formulas.

Will I purchase the full size when my two deluxe samples are used up? Probably not. There are just so many primers out there and this one isn’t amazing. However, I did like it and it’s not terribly expensive for a primer, especially since a little goes a long way. So, I definitely recommend it for people who are in the market for a smoothing primer.

Have you tried this one? What’s your favorite primer? Be sure to let me know in the comment section.

YSL Volupté Tint-in-Balm

Tinted balms are one of my favorite beauty products. They apply quickly and look natural even when they’re a darker color. They really pull together a minimal makeup day. Recently, I decided to splurge on a more high-end balm and purchased the Yves Saint Laurent Volupté Tint-in-Balm in the shade Dare Me Plum. This can be purchased from Sephora for $34.

So, in retrospect, $34 is super pricey for a lip balm, but I ended up really really liking this one! It glides on so easily, and it has this amazing pomegranate scent that I love. This shade is a dark berry, but since it’s a balm, the pigmentation is very sheer so it looks like a very natural berry as if you just ate a berry-flavored Popsicle. It doesn’t last very long, but I don’t think I can fault it too much for that since balms are naturally not very long lasting. I don’t mind having to reapply so often since it’s so easy and glides on evenly and smells amazing. Overall, I’m glad I splurged on this one, although I suspect I won’t repurchase this one when it runs out since the tint lasts for such a short time compared to the Dior Addict balms, which I also love. The Dior balms are less moisturizing but the color does last longer, so I’ll probably stick to them in the future.

Have you tried this product? What is your favorite tinted lip balm? Be sure to let me know in the comment section.
