Sunday Riley UFO Acne Treatment Face Oil

Sunday Riley skincare products are cult favorites with huge followings. Unfortunately, they’re also really expensive so these are the types of products I always secretly hope won’t work with my skin so that I’m not tempted to buy them. That was actually true for the first few products I tried, but I have sadly fallen in love with the Sunday Riley UFO Ultra-Clarifying Acne Treatment Face Oil. This oil retails at Sephora and similar retailers for $40 for half of an ounce. That’s right. Half of an ounce.

First, I will issue a warning. This product smells BAD. It’s very overpowering and kind of smells like rancid oregano. Whenever I use it, I immediately have to moisturize with my Dr. Jart+ Tiger Grass Cream so that it can cover up the scent. However, this product works so well and has really helped my acne. Thankfully, you can use just a little bit and it will cover your whole face. The applicator is an eyedropper, and you probably only need half of the dropper or less to cover the whole face. It’s very easy to work into the skin, and it’s not a very harsh product so it won’t dry out the skin. In fact, since it’s an oil, it’s pretty moisturizing all on its own.

This serum is jam-packed with amazing skincare ingredients. In this product, the main ingredient for fighting acne is salicylic acid, but it also contains gems such as tea tree oil, black cumin seed oil (both of which fight acne), and licorice (which is good for brightening complexion). To nourish the skin and combat dryness, it also includes cucumber seed oil, chamomile, and neroli. Overall, I’ve been ridiculously impressed with this product, and I’m glad that, at least compared to other Sunday Riley products, it’s not the most expensive.

PTR Acne Clearing Wash

Over the holidays, I definitely over-indulged in sugary foods and I didn’t take great care of my skin. Now, I’m trying to fix all the acne I caused with my poor lifestyle and stress. This feels like an unending battle, but I’m glad that I finally found a gentle but effective cleanser to help me: the Peter Thomas Roth Acne Clearing Wash which can be purchased from Sephora for $38 for an 8.5 oz bottle.

First, I love that the bottle is so huge! Since you only need a little of this cleanser, the bottle is sure to last for a good while, which is nice since it’s not the cheapest cleanser. I also really love the citrusy scent. So many acne products smell horrible, but this one smells really light and fresh.

While the cleanser does contain salicylic acid to clear up acne, it does not contain any alcohol or dye. This is great because leaving out those ingredients means this cleanser is less likely to dry out your skin. Indeed, I’ve found that my skin is not at all dry after using this cleanser (even though it’s winter!)

I’ve definitely noticed a difference in my acne since using this cleanser, so I highly recommend it. It’s so easy to use and lathers well, plus it has a great scent and doesn’t dry out this skin. This one is definitely a keeper!

Kate Somerville EradiKate

I’m always looking for new ways to banish blemishes. My skin has been looking a lot better recently, but certain times of the month will cause a few unsightly zits. I recently decided to try the Kate Somerville EradiKate Acne Treatment which can be purchased from Sephora for $26.

I have used this product before, but it was so long ago that I wanted to try it again. I thought I remembered it working for me, but I couldn’t remember why I didn’t repurchase it. I’m really glad I gave it a second chance. This is a great spot treatment that definitely shortens the lifetime of a blemish. However, there are two downsides: 1. It can be drying for sure, so try to only use it on the smallest amount of skin possible. 2. It smells really bad. That’s because one of its main ingredients in sulfur. Sulfur is amazing for acne-prone skin but it smells pretty bad.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this product! If you can get over the smell and you moisturize after use, hopefully you’ll have great results.

It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream

I had been hearing so much about the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream, so I just had to get some for myself so I could review it and see what all the fuss is about! You can get the full-sized version of this product for $38 from Sephora, or you can get a travel sized version for $15.

Because this is a CC cream, you can expect it to have more coverage than a tinted moisturizer or BB cream and less coverage than a full-coverage foundation. I definitely found that this provided a solid medium-coverage, which was impressive. I bought the light shade, and it was almost too dark for me. It’s fine for the summer, but I would probably need the fair shade in the winter. Most products like this only come in three shades (light, medium, or dark), but this brand does carry 7 shades, which is awesome!

Now, you may wonder why it’s a CC+ cream instead of just a CC cream. This is because it provides some additional skincare benefits, mainly an anti-aging serum. I definitely haven’t used it long enough to see any anti-aging effects, and I don’t plan on using it for much longer because unfortunately it has been causing me to have some breakouts. I do have pretty sensitive skin, and I suspect it’s probably the anti-aging serum that is causing my breakouts. Because of this, I would suggest that acne prone people try the travel sized version before committing to the full-sized version. I really do like the It Cosmetics brand and their other products have not caused breakouts.

The formulation of this product is thicker than I was expecting. I did like the medium-coverage it provided. I know that it says it is full-coverage, but this did not compare to my actual full-coverage foundation. Still, I was impressed by how it covered most of my flaws. I only had to use a little bit of concealer to cover my pesky zits. It left a semi-matte finish, but I did get oily throughout the day when I used this product, which was another bummer.

Overall, this product wasn’t for me, but I could definitely see how others like it. If you have drier skin and it doesn’t cause you to breakout, you’ll probably like the finish. This might be a better winter product though because it definitely melted in the summer heat and didn’t last very long for me, but the coverage is pretty great.

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer

I’m always trying to find the best concealers to use on my skin. I have some redness, some acne, and dark undereye circles, so concealer is absolutely essential in my makeup routine. I recently tried another one from Sephora: the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Aquacealer.  This is a pretty large bottle of concealer that comes with an equally hefty doefoot applicator, and it can be purchased for $26.

Tarte is a great brand when it comes to acne-prone skin because the products are pretty natural and use a very minimal amount of chemicals. It is definitely a full-coverage liquid concealer, and it seems to blend best with a damp beauty blender instead of a concealer brush. Tarte also sells 12 different shades of this product, which is great versatility for various skin tones!

I’ve been really happy with this concealer, but it’s definitely not perfect. It has a great amount of coverage, but it doesn’t have the lasting power that I want for my most stubborn flaws. Even with a setting powder, it doesn’t seem to last throughout the entire day. Also, the formulation is great for zits and redness, but it definitely doesn’t work underneath my eyes. It’s too thick for that delicate skin area and tends to just sort of sit in the fine lines underneath my eyes, which is not a great look!

While I’ve been liking it, and I’ll definitely use it until I run out, I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing this one. It’s worked well, but I feel like there has to be better concealers out there.

Yes to Tomatoes Charcoal Mask

I have really grown to love sheet masks! I’ve had so many from Sephora, but there are some great drugstore options too! One of the best from the drugstore is the Yes to Tomatoes Detoxifying Charcoal Paper Mask which you can get from Target or similar stores for only $2.50.

I have to give a shout out to my friend Katie who first gave me one of these. It’s amazing! This mask really makes my pores look less noticeable and my skin feels much smoother after using this. Now, it does tingle a little bit, but it’s not a painful kind of reaction. I haven’t noticed any skin irritation even with the tingle.

Besides the price point and the skin benefits, I also love how large the eye and mouth holes are. I don’t like putting products too close to my eyes unless they’re meant for eyes, so I appreciate that I don’t have to worry about accidentally getting this product in my eyes or mouth.

I definitely would recommend this to anyone who has acne or large pores. It works really well and can definitely compete with Sephora sheet masks. For under $3, it is definitely worth trying!

Have you tried this product, or do you have another favorite sheet mask? Please, let me know if the comments section.

Origins Super Spot Remover

I love the Origins skincare brand from Sephora because the products are more natural and plant-based than other brands, and their products never seem to break me out. Recently, I picked up the Origins Super Spot Remover treatment gel from Sephora for $17.

This container is TINY and contains only 0.3 oz of product (but this is the full-size of the product). It contains a concentration of salicylic acid, and can easily be dabbed onto blemishes. I do think that this product worked well. I noticed that my spots definitely healed faster with this product than without this product. However, it was very drying and I had to start using a heavier moisturizer. The small container also didn’t last very long (maybe two months for me).

This is a nice product and it does what it claims to, but I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing. While it helped my acne, the results weren’t astounding. I also didn’t care for the dryness and how little product you get, but I think this would be a great spot treatment for someone who only gets the occasional zit. If you only have a small area to treat, I think this could work really well for you!

What are your favorite acne treatment products?

Dr. Jart+ UV Sun Fluid

Summer is in full swing! I’ve been loving the warm weather. To protect my skin from the sun’s rays, I’ve been using Dr. Jart+ UV Sun Fluid as my go-to sunscreen. This product can be purchased from Sephora for $34 (for a 3.4 oz bottle).

My skin is really sensitive and acne prone, but this has worked so well for me. I can even apply it to my face without having to endure any additional breakouts afterward! The price tag is a bit steep for a sunscreen, but a little goes a really long way! It is SPF 30, and it really sinks into the skin quickly.

Most sunscreens leave behind an odor, but it’s a lot less noticeable with this product. I don’t mind the smell of sunscreen, but I just thought I’d mention this in case someone’s looking for a sunscreen with a milder scent.

Now, if this is just too high of a price tag for you, that’s okay. I have a cheaper option that I also like and can recommend for the face: Neutrogena Clear Face Sunscreen has also done a great job for me in the past and has not caused breakouts. It’s available at Target for $9 (for a 3 oz bottle), and it is SPF 55. It’s a great affordable option!

No matter if you like high end or budget products, be sure to protect your skin every day! A little prevention now can help keep away wrinkles, sunspots, and even skin cancer. Stay safe, beauties!

What are some of your go-to sunscreens for the summer?

Clearogen Sulfur Acne Lotion

I have suffered from acne since high school, but it’s really been a lot better over the past year or so. I’m not sure if it’s been better because I’m getting older or because I’m drinking so much water all the time or because of the face products I’ve been using, but I recently ran out of my Peter Thomas Roth AHA/BHA treatment and thought I’d try something a bit cheaper: Clearogen Sulfur Acne Lotion.

This product can be purchased from Sephora for $32.00. It is actually one part of a three-step system, but I only purchased this lotion. Honestly, I’ve just had terrible luck with using whole systems of products that are all for acne-prone skin because they end up drying my skin up so bad and my acne almost always gets worse in the long-run, so that’s why I just went with this acne lotion instead of the whole system.

Sulfur is an amazing ingredient for acne, but unfortunately it smells really bad. I will say that this product didn’t smell as bad as other sulfur-based products, but I still really hated the smell. It’s very off-putting and it really lasts a long time.

Also, I’ve been using this product for about two months, and I just haven’t been wowed by it at all. I’m glad that it doesn’t dry out my skin, but my acne has been worse since I started using this product instead of better. To be fair, I am not sure if my results would be different if I used the whole three-step system instead of just the one product, but I’m really not going to try the other products. I’ve already gone ahead and bought the Peter Thomas Roth AHA/BHA treatment and I’m just waiting for it to arrive. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with the Clearogen product (maybe one of my friends will want to try it?) but I just don’t want to put up with the smell if it’s not making my skin look truly amazing.

Dr. Jart+ Pore Minimalist Mask

It’s not secret that Dr. Jart+ is one of my favorite brands at Sephora. Their skincare products are innovative and work really well, and they use very natural ingredients that don’t irritate my somewhat sensitive skin. I recently tried the Dr. Jart+ Pore Minimalist Black Charcoal Sheet Mask which can be purchased from Sephora for $7.50.

This was a very easy-to-apply sheet mask (as most sheet masks are). There’s no cleanup necessary because the product is clear even though the mask is black. This mask is supposed to be a great product for acne-prone skin, and I used it when my hormonal acne was flaring up right before my period. I will say that my zits didn’t magically disappear, but I did think they looked less red and less noticeable. My overall skin felt much smoother afterwards, and it continued feeling more moisturized for a few days.

I think this is a great little treat for the skin, and I’m looking forward to reviewing more of these masks. I tend to prefer cream mask products over sheet masks (I feel like the creams sink deeper in the pores and give more immediate results), but this one definitely blew away the Sephora brand masks.
