Bare Minerals Bare Skin Perfecting Veil

For my skin texture, a finishing powder is pretty much always needed to complete my makeup looks. At times, when my skin is a bit dry, I reach for a light translucent powder. But when my skin is a bit oilier (during spring and summer), I’ve noticed that a pressed powder locks things in place better. Since it’s that time of year, I decided to find a new pressed powder to try, and I ended up getting the Bare Minerals Bare Skin Perfecting Veil. This powder costs $27 at Sephora and similar retailers.

I’ve always had good luck with the Bare Minerals brand, which is why I wanted to try another of their products. However, I was a bit concerned that the shade range is limited for this product. There are only four shades, and the lightest one offered is called, “Light/Medium.” My skin tone is closer to Fair/Light and I’ve never been close to Medium in my whole life, so I wasn’t sure if this one would even work for me. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised that it is the perfect shade and blends in so well with my existing foundations.

I’ve been so impressed by how well this powder works. It keeps oil at bay for the entire day. I very rarely feel the need to touch up my makeup in the bathroom at work because this powder definitely helps extend the wear of my foundation and concealer too. In fact, I’ll often go a whole 8+ hour work day without touching up anything but my lipstick. I love how this powder locks everything in place without looking heavy or cakey. It doesn’t seem to settle into any lines or pores, and it creates this great, smooth skin surface.

Overall, I’ve been so pleased with this product. It performs well, looks great on the skin, and seems to blur my imperfections. The moment I start hitting pan on this product, I’m for sure going to buy a backup. This is one of the best pressed powders I’ve ever tried, and I highly recommend it!

The Bare Minerals bareSkin Perfecting Veil Finishing Powder – I’ve been a bit oilier lately and my acne’s been worse, so I needed a pressed powder which I feel is easier to layer over problem skin than loose powder.

Make Up Forever Full Coverage Concealer – Again, with the acne I need something heavy-duty to help cover up.

Sunday Riley The Influencer Clean Long Wear Foundation – This brand has a major cult following and I’ve been so excited to try this new foundation!

Dior Addict Lip Lacquer – I’m obsessed with Dior lip products, so I have to try all their new ones! And this one has major glitter…

Caudalie Instant Detox Mask – This is an amazing, gentle mask that can be used every day and is fantastic for acne. You can read my full review here.

Herbivore Blue Tansy AHA + BHA Resurfacing Clarity Mask – This mask is also amazing for acne. I initially didn’t love it because of the smell, but I was won over by how it helped my skin. You can read my full review here.

Bare Minerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor – Swag

Let me start this post by admitting that I absolutely loathe liquid lipsticks. I’ve tried so many of them over my lifetime, and I hate how they leave my lips so dry and cracked and flaking. The color almost never wears evenly and it is hard to reapply throughout the day. That being said, I was completely blown away when I tried the Bare Minerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor. I received a deluxe sample of the shade “Swag” which is a nice neutral mauve. The full sized version of this product can be purchased from Sephora for $18.

This is definitely the least drying matte liquid lip color I think I’ve ever tried. It felt soft on my lips and had an almost velvety texture. It was, naturally, a little bit drying, but it was definitely more manageable than I expected. The nude mauve color was really pretty, and I was shocked at how evenly and easily this slid on my lips. It was a very natural-looking shade, which I think helped it appear to wear off evenly. I’m curious if a bolder shade would have appeared to wear off so easily since it would be more noticeable if it was not. Still, I was very impressed by this particular product, and I loved the shade.

I would absolutely recommend this product to someone who is looking for a matte long-wearing lip color. Will I purchase the full size of this product? Probably not. I still don’t like liquid lipsticks, but if I had to wear one, I would definitely choose this one.

Have you tried a brand of liquid lipsticks that didn’t dry out your lips too much? Please, let me know in the comments section!

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue

I’ve been hearing so many good things about the Complexion Rescue gel from  Bare Minerals. The formula acts like a hybrid tinted moisturizer/BB cream, and it is supposed to be great for problem skin. When I had the opportunity to pick up a free sample with my purchase from Sephora, I went for it!

I used shade Vanilla 02

My sample came with four single-use pods of different shades. The only shade that worked for my pale skin was “Vanilla 02.” I put this on my skin and was immediately disappointed. This did not have a great amount of coverage, so all of my blemishes were still obvious. But worst of all, this product made me look greasy. I have combination skin with a tendency to get a bit oily on my t-zone throughout the day, but I usually do well with BB Creams and tinted moisturizers because I have dry patches too, especially on my cheeks and chin.

So, should you buy this?

Pros: This product is only $29.50 which is pretty good for a foundation replacement. Also, while it made me look greasy, it might work really well for you if you have extremely dry skin. Plus, SPF 30 is a definite selling point! It also comes in 16 shades which is a great amount of range.

Cons: If you have combination skin, this might be too moisturizing for you. If you have oily skin, you should definitely avoid this product. Also, if you have any blemishes or a lot of redness or other pigmentation concerns, this seems to have much less coverage than the standard BB cream.

Pop of Passion

The worst thing about wearing bold lip colors is definitely when the lip product begins to dry out your lips and you can start to see all the little lines in your bottom lip. I hate that look on myself and others, but I love rocking a bold lip color. Thankfully, I have found:

Bare Minerals – Pop of Passion Lip Oil-Balm

bare minerals lip
Shade: Pink Plum

This lip color is really a hybrid product. Most tinted balms provide only a  light coverage, but this color really does “pop” like the name says. It provides a medium to full lip opacity.

So, should you buy it?

Pros: For a lip color, the price is pretty nice at only $16. The oil in the product really hydrates lips to prevent those fine lip lines, and the color is spectacular. The product also comes in many shades from nude to peach to pink to berry. The color I happen to own is “Pink Plum” and it is a great mix between a pink and berry.

Cons: This does not last as long as a traditional long-wear lipstick. The shine and color certainly do fade throughout the day and you’ll need to reapply at least once or twice for full impact, but it does leave a nice stained tint even after it fades. And, on the plus side, it does fade evenly.

Overall, I think this is a great, affordable lip product that is especially nice for those who want color who are afraid of traditional lipsticks. This product is easy to apply and gives a great look.
