Clinique Almost Lipstick

I love bold lipsticks, but I know that not everyone does. I’m sure there are lots of people out there who are maybe afraid of too much color on the lips. I’ve had some friends ask me for a good starter lipstick that has a sheer but noticeable amount of color, and I typically recommend that these friends try Clinique’s Almost Lipstick. This lipstick retails at Sephora and similar retailers for $17.50.

Once upon a time, Clinique sold tons of shades in their Almost Lipstick line, but a few years ago they discontinued all but two universally-flattering shades: Pink Honey and Black Honey (which is more of a berry tone). It is pretty impressive how true the “universally-flattering” claim is. Every person I’ve recommended it to has found that it suited their skin tone. I’m sure there are exceptions out there, but they seem to be few and far between.

One reason that I think this is a good starter lipstick (besides it taking the guesswork out of what shade will flatter you) is the buildable color. You can swipe once for a sheer wash of color, or you can add more layers for more color. With this lipstick, you’re in total control. It also is very nourishing and will not dry out your lips (although, as a result, it’s also not very long-lasting).

Overall, I really love this lipstick. I use it on minimal makeup days, and I’m always happy with the result. If you’re looking for a lipstick but you’re a bit scared of trying one, I would highly recommend this lipstick.

Clinique Pep-Start Hydroblur Moisturizer

It’s going to be winter soon! This means that moisturizer is going to become extra important in any skincare routine (although, it really should be important year-round). I recently tried a different moisturizer: the Clinique Pep-Start Hydroblur Moisturizer which can be purchased from Sephora for $30.

One great thing about the Clinique brand is that they have great, quality products for more affordable prices than other Sephora-based brands. I find that this moisturizer is no exception. It does a great job at moisturizing and would work well as a primer. The “blur” effect is noticeable and allows makeup to sit really well on the skin. It fills in all the nooks and crannies that pop up on a face to create a smooth canvas.

I do think that this is a lighter moisturizer. Some people with dry skin might find that it doesn’t quite pack enough of a punch for them. My skin is pretty normal/combination and does not get extremely dry, so I find that it works well for me. I would think that it would be a good moisturizer for oily skin as well because the “blur” properties also make it look a bit mattified even though it’s moisturizing.

Have you tried this one? What’s your current go-to moisturizer? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Clinique Chubby Sticks

I feel like crayon-esque products are all over the beauty market right now, but it all started with Clinique Chubby Sticks.

This simple-to-use product is truly the easiest thing in the world to apply, and Clinique has expanded it’s chubby stick lines to include tinted lip products, intense lip products, moisturizing lip products, foundations, eye shadows, blushes, and even contour sticks. The lip and eye products start at about $17 and the face products are around $24. This is truly some of the most affordable but still high-end makeup out there. I think Clinique is just an amazing brand, and these are very innovative products that are sure to save you time when you get ready in the morning. I have four of the lip products, one eye shadow, the foundation (which I use as a perfect concealer), a blush, a bronzer, and a highlighter. This is my go-to five-minute face, and I recommend these products to all. Also, Clinique is pretty good for sensitive skin as it contains fewer harsh products than other brands.

Clinique Almost Lipstick

I feel like I talk a lot about vibrant, long-wearing lipsticks, but I know that’s just not what everyone is looking for. There are often times when people just want a very sheer bit of color – something demure but noticeable. One product I really like when I want just a little color is Clinique Almost Lipstick. It is available from Sephora for $17.

This shade has been discontinued!

Clinique has undergone many product changes over the past two years, and there are now only two shades of this currently available, but they are nearly universally flattering in berry and pink. The picture I posted above is one of the discontinued shades, but I wanted to include it so you could see how light the color appears on my hand. It is a very sheer product!

So, should you buy it?

Pros: This has a nice hint of color for those looking for something sheer. It has a shiny, glossy finish. The tube is incredibly skinny and should fit in literally any tiny handbag or pocket without looking bulky. Also, it is very moisturizing.

Cons: It only comes in two shades at this point – berry and pink. This is pretty limiting. Also, the coverage is not buildable, so it is not very versatile. It can only produce a sheer finish.

Overall, I like this product. It’s a pretty good price and the tube will last a very long time. This is a great addition to a natural-looking makeup day or a low-maintenance routing, but stay tuned to this blog for more suggestions for tinted balms with more available shades.
