Ciaté Fierce Flicks Precision Tip Liquid Liner

I love a dramatic cat eye, and this requires a fantastic liquid eyeliner if it’s going to last all day long and look even. My favorite is still Stila, but I’m always willing to try other brands to see how they compare. Recently, I had the chance to try the Ciaté London Fierce Flicks Precision Tip Liquid Liner. This product is $19 at Sephora and similar retailers.

Basically, the only thing I liked about this eyeliner was the name. “Fierce Flicks” is an adorable name. Everything else was a big disappointment.

First, the claim of a “precision tip” was sadly lacking. I found the tip to be too wide and not pointed enough to get a clean winged look. This might be fine if you’re just lining the rim of the upper eye, but it’s not precise enough for anything fancy.

The texture of the product was also strangely patchy. I had to go over the line so many time to try to get the shade even, and that’s something I don’t usually struggle with even when using drugstore eyeliners. Very disappointing!

Finally, this product never really dried down. It smeared a bit and parts of it flaked off and I needed to reapply throughout the work day. I hate being so overwhelmingly negative in a review, but I felt the need to be honest. I would avoid this eyeliner at all costs! Even if someone offers it to you for free, it’s just not worth the hassle.

Clinique Pretty Easy Eyeliner

I love a dramatic eye look, and what better way to top it off than with liquid eyeliner? There are so many good ones on the market, but I recently tried the Clinique Pretty Easy Liquid Eyelining Pen which retails for $21 at Sephora and similar retailers.

With a name like “Pretty Easy” the expectations become high, especially since applying liquid eyeliner can be a time consuming challenge. I’m pleased to say that this one really lived up to its name though. One swipe on each eye resulted in a pretty even lining on both eyes, plus the pen tip is narrow enough to get really close to the lash line. The tip allows for a lot of control, and it is perfect for a cat eye too. Overall, I was really impressed by how easy this one was to apply. It was a cinch and the product also lasted all night.

My one complaint is that you have to be careful not to touch your eye because it never dries down completely and will transfer. I wore this when I had dinner with a friend, and we ended up laughing so hard about something that my eyes started watering. When I wiped my eye, a whole lot of liner came off on my finger. However, it didn’t looked smeared around my eye nor did it migrate anywhere, so that’s good.

Overall, I really recommend this product, especially for those who struggle with eyeliner application. The pen tip on this product makes it very easy to apply.

Fun Update and Maybelline Curvitude Liquid Eyeliner

I have exciting news: I just completed my makeup artist certification! I don’t plan on actually trying to make a career as a makeup artist, but I am very invested in this beauty blog and I wanted to learn as much as I could about makeup in order to provide the best information.

However, I don’t think all makeup artists agree on everything. For instance, I was taught that pencil eyeliners are superior to liquid eyeliners when doing a cat eye, but that just hasn’t been my experience. Sure, liquid eyeliners might be harder to use and achieve symmetry, but I think their finish and lasting power are unparalleled. A cat eye done in liquid eyeliner really stands out.

That being said, I have a new liquid eyeliner to review today: the Maybelline Curvitude Liquid Eyeliner. This product can be purchased from Target or similar retailers for about $7.

For the price, I definitely think that this is a nice eyeliner. The container is curved to adhere to the way that people hold pencils and eyeliners. I found that the way the container is made did actually help with the application. It was pretty easy to apply evenly as well, which is a huge plus and especially impressive for a drugstore eyeliner! The brush was also very thin at the tip which allowed for a lot of control and precision.

Now, the product wasn’t without its cons as well. I didn’t actually like the formula of the product. It never really dried completely, so it was just too easy to smudge. If you do end up using this product, you’ll need to keep that in mind and try very hard not to touch it once it is finished. Still, this was a nice drugstore option for a liquid eyeliner.

For those who are wondering, the liquid eyeliner I recommend and use the most is the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner which retails for $22 at Sephora.

Blogmas Day 3: Fingertip Eyeliner

Welcome to Blogmas day 4! Today in the Sephora advent calendar I received a bottle of the Sephora Fingertip Eyeliner, which can only currently be purchased in Australia for $14.

This is a unique little eyeliner. Your fingertip fits in the lid of the container to allow for a precise application. This eyeliner was easy to use and the design of the container worked well. The brush is thin enough to give you a lot of control to create the type of line that you want, so this was a huge plus. The only downside is that this formula does smudge and fade throughout the day. If they could have a different formulation with the same design, it would be a big winner.

Have any of my Aussie readers tried this one? If so, what did you think? Be sure to let me know in the comments section!

Almay Pen Eyeliner

Almay makes some of my very favorite eyeliners. I was really excited to try one of their newer ones: the Almay Pen Eyeliner in Brown. This can be purchased from Target or similar stores for $6.

The Almay eyeliners I love are pencils, but I still had high hopes for this liquid eyeliner. I really wanted to find a great drugstore liquid eyeliner option. Unfortunately, this was not it! The formulation was okay and pigmented, but the applicator itself was atrocious. The tip has no give and is just too stiff. It’s almost painful to pull it across the eyelid, and it was so hard to get it to the edge of the lash line. To make matters worse, the “innovative ballpoint tip” makes it pretty much impossible to make the sharp lines necessary for a winged eye look. After struggling for an unfortunate amount of time to apply this eyeliner, I was also disappointed by it’s staying power. It faded quickly and one eye did get smudged after only an hour or so. Overall, I recommend passing on this product!

Are there any great drugstore liquid eyeliners that you’ve tried? Please, let me know because I’d very much like to try something else!

Wings Cosmetics Eyeliner Stamps

Disclaimer: I received this product from the company in exchange for an honest review.

Winged eyeliner is difficult for a lot of people. It takes a lot of time and practice to perfect. So, I was really intrigued when I received these eye stamps that are supposed to allow you to easily create a winged eye look in seconds. Wings Cosmetics have created these innovative stamps to help you get an effortless winged look, and I was thrilled to be able to try them out.

You can buy this product from the Wings Cosmetics website, and each set retails for about $10-15. I received both the classic wing and the dramatic wing.

I tried using these stamps utilizing two different methods. First, I tried to cover the entire stamp with eyeliner in order to get the full lined look plus the winged eye. I found this method to be a bit messy and it didn’t work quite right. I then tried to just use the winged tip in the corner of my eye, and this was just easier and allowed me more control with the stamp. So, if you do decide to invest in this product, I would definitely recommend just using the winged part of the stamp.

I found that the dramatic stamp worked a bit better than the classic stamp. Since the classic stamp was smaller, it was hard to get it to line up with the edge of my eye. However, I didn’t have this problem with the dramatic wing. I did find that the point of the wing wasn’t as crisp as I liked with using the stamp alone, but it did provide a nice baseline to help me visualize and fill in the wing afterwards.

Overall, I think this is an interesting product, and I would encourage people who aren’t able to do winged eyeliner by hand to give the dramatic stamp a try. However, I’m pretty comfortable drawing on wings myself, so I didn’t find this to be any faster. These won’t be a permanent staple in my collection, but I think it’s something to consider for people who really need a guide for creating this look.

Sephora Waterproof Eyeliner Pencils

I like putting eyeliner in my waterline (the line above your lower eyelashes underneath your eyeball), but it’s hard for eyeliner to stay here unless it is truly waterproof. I have spent a lot of time searching for an inexpensive but effective option, and the best one I’ve found so far is the Sephora Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil.

These eyeliners are only $12, and they last for quite a while. Sephora also sells a huge variety of shades. They truly do last all day but are easy to remove with eye makeup remover. They also stay put and do not migrate underneath my eye. Overall, this is just the perfect retractable pencil eyeliner for underneath the eye. They work okay on the upper lash line as well, but my preference is still liquid for that part of the eye.

Marc Jacobs Gel Eyeliner

I recently received a sample of the Marc Jacobs Fineliner Ultra-Skinny Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner in black from Sephora.

This product in full-size costs $24 which is pretty high for a pencil eyeliner. These are twistable to get more of the product and are not actual pencils that require sharpening, so that’s a plus. It also is just as fine as it suggests when it comes to the width of the tip. Tightlining is pretty easy with this product because the tip is so narrow and it does glide very easily.

Now, I have to admit that when I first used the product, I thought it smudged too easily. However, I’ve since realized that it just takes longer to dry because it is a gel product. Once it does dry, it’s pretty budge-proof, but I still don’t like how long it takes to dry. It takes longer than most liquid liners. Also, while the tip is very fine, it is not a brush tip, so I still find that it’s not great for a cat-eye or winged look. Still, if you just want to tightline or put this in the water line, it does work pretty well as long as you’re patient and let it dry.

I can see this becoming a favorite for other people. It is a good product. I just don’t think I’ll be purchasing it when I’ve finished this sample because it doesn’t quite meet my particular eyeliner needs.

Stila Stay All Day Eyeliner

Winged eyeliner is the holy grail of beauty looks for a lot of makeup junkies, but finding the right product is so difficult. There are so many eyeliners out there, but I wanted to share my very favorite one: Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner.

The brush tip of this eyeliner is brilliantly constructed. Depending on the angle you hold the brush, it can create a very thin or thick line. It is so easy to maneuver and this is, in part, due to the consistency of the product. It is wonderfully pigmented and comes out more evenly than any other liquid eyeliner I’ve tried. This eyeliner is guaranteed to cut down the time it takes you to apply the perfect cat eye. You might even get to work on time!

This product can be purchased for $22 at Sephora, which isn’t too bad compared to other high-end eyeliner prices. It does last a very long time and does not seem to dry out nearly as quickly as other brands I’ve purchased. It also lasts all day long! The only drawback I’ve had is that it is actually pretty difficult to get off. Most eye makeup removers make me scrub too much when I’m trying to get this off, so I definitely suggest trying Clinique Take the Day Off Balm to get this off without scrubbing off your eyelashes.
