Skincare Benefits of Coconut Oil

I love buying and trying new skincare products. There’s something so fun about a face mask. However, sometimes I enter into a mood where I get obsessed with natural products and remedies. The last time this happened, I discovered the many health benefits of coconut oil! For under $10 you can get an enormous jar that will last so long and give you so many skincare benefits.

The first way I use coconut oil is as a face mask. Coconut oil is super moisturizing and smells amazing! Sometimes, I’ll put it on my face and then just wait 30 minutes before washing it off my skin. Coconut oil contains antibacterial and antifungal properties, so it may be great for acne. This seems to be the case for me because it always leaves my skin smoother and hasn’t caused any new breakouts, however I have heard that some people get more acne when they use coconut oil – so you may just have to try it and see how your skin reacts. I’ve been really pleased with my results though!

Since coconut oil is super moisturizing, I’ll sometimes use it as a body mask too. For instance, 30 minutes before a shower, I’ll slather my feet and knees and elbows with coconut oil and I’ll let it absorb and soften before my shower. The reason I do this pre-shower instead of post-shower is that I’ve found that coconut oil doesn’t absorb as completely as a lotion will, and it seems to always leave an undesirable residue if I don’t wash it off.

Finally, coconut oil can be used as a really effective makeup remover. It can even remove dramatic eye makeup. There’s something about the oil that seems to melt the makeup and make it super easy to wash off. In fact, using coconut oil kind of reminds me of the Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm. It’s a great first step in a double-cleanse!

Have you used coconut oil in your skincare routine? Be sure to let me know the results in the comment section!

Crystal Essence Mineral Deodorant

Time for a bit of an overshare: I don’t like natural deodorants. They just don’t seem to work well enough for me to wear them in my daily life. I don’t sweat excessively, but I’m paranoid enough to prefer a full-on non-natural antiperspirant. In fact, regarding those women who use botox injections to prevent armpit sweat – I am sometimes tempted by this…

Anyway, I still like using natural deodorants at night. I shower at night and then I’ll usually put on a natural deodorant for the evening/overnight (and then use my real one in the morning!). Recently, I tried the Crystal Essence Mineral Deodorant in Vanilla Jasmine. This product can be purchased online and in select drugstores for about $5.

Like most natural deodorants, this one smells nice but doesn’t seem to last for very long. I think that I really prefer a stick to a roller ball, and unfortunately this one is a roller ball. Still, I love the light, floral scent. I think that this would work fine for people who don’t sweat very much, but it just can’t cut it for the average person’s average day. Still, it’s a nice, affordable, natural option for those who are looking for it. However, comparing it to Tom’s of Maine natural deodorant, I’m certain that Tom’s wins in terms of both lasting power and scent.

Bite Beauty

Over the years, I have amassed so many lipsticks from Bite Beauty.  The picture below shows just a handful of the various samples and purchases I’ve picked up. This brand is one you can get at Sephora. They’re whole focus is lips, which is really fun.

Part of the Bite Beauty goal is to provide high-quality products that use natural, good-for-you ingredients. So, if you’re worried about chemicals, you can rest assured that these products are made from healthy, organic materials. Now, for a natural lipstick, this is definitely the best brand I’ve ever tried. The products are easy to apply, apply and wear evenly, and don’t dry out the lips too much. That being said, if you’re just looking for a lipstick and you’re not as concerned about the ingredients that may be used, I wouldn’t really recommend these. I find that I’m consistently underwhelmed by these products. Does anyone else feel that way? There’s nothing really wrong with them – they’re just not the best. They don’t wear the longest. They’re not the most moisturizing. They colors aren’t the prettiest. Honestly, I’m not sure how I’ve managed to amass so many of these products since I don’t love them. So, my overall verdict is that this one is great if you want a natural product, but it’s a pass if that’s not your goal.

What do you think? Is this brand the bomb or just blah to you?

Tom’s Long Lasting Deodorant

Every so often, I go on an all-natural kick when I try to use the most natural skincare and makeup products and I try to eat super healthy and do yoga constantly. These moods usually last like two weeks max because I will inevitably miss my Dior lipsticks and cheeseburgers, but sometimes I discover some cool things that I still use after I’ve had one of these health sprees. One such thing is Tom’s of Maine Long Lasting Deodorant in Wild Lavender.  This product is available at Target stores for about $4.50.

Now, to be honest, I don’t love all-natural deodorants because they don’t really work as well as more traditional brands. This one is no exception – I use an antiperspirant during the day instead of this product. But I still LOVE this product because of the smell. It smells so soothing. The lavender scent is so natural and doesn’t have any of the weird artificial chemical scent of most drugstore lavender products. (This scent serious rivals the lavender products of super-luxurious L’Occitane). I shower at night and then I use this product because the scent just helps me relax and unwind. Also, I feel like the product moisturizes my armpits, which is something I never thought of needing before. Armpits do get dry from shaving and I think that some powdery-scented deodorants that work well also dry them out further. So, I like giving my pits a break at night by using this soothing product. This is kind of a weird post because I’m not endorsing this product for the way it was really intended, but I still wanted to share in case anyone else loves lavender scents or has dry armpits.

Acure Brightening Facial Scrub

Exfoliation is a tricky word. It’s important to remove dead skin, but exfoliating too much can be harmful to the skin and cause a lot of irritation. However, there is a great, affordable option out there for perfect exfoliation: Acure Brightening Facial Scrub.

This scrub works really well, but it’s gentle enough that you can use it up to three times a week. It’s remarkably gentle and made with very natural ingredients. I have a phobia about exfoliating products with large granules that are hard to wash off, but this product doesn’t scare me because the granules are so small and nearly disappear when I scrub my face. Of course, I do have to wash it off, but my skin doesn’t have a gritty feeling afterwards. It also has an amazing bright green color which is just so fun.

Overall, this is a great product. You can pick it up online or at a drugstore for under $10 and it will last a long time. A little goes a long way, and it definitely makes my skin looking clearer and brighter. This is a great, inexpensive find!
