Blogmas Day 15: Lotus Sleeping Mask

It’s Day 15 of Blogmas! Thanks for sticking with me for over two weeks now. I was expecting these blogs to be a bit more exciting, but unfortunately a lot of the little goodies have been pretty underwhelming. Today, however, I got a really good one! It’s the Sephora Lotus Sleeping Mask which can be purchased in a single-use pod for $4.

I love overnight masks because they are gentle but powerful. With this mask, you place a large layer on your face. After a while, it dries down, but you’ll want to still avoid washing your face again until the next morning so that it can continue working. This one works really well, and $4 is a lot cheaper than many sheet masks, so I think that the price is pretty good too. There is enough in this container to probably last two nights, but there’s no way to seal the package up again. Apply a thick layer. It feels really slimy at first because it has a gel texture, but it definitely dries down within 20 minutes or so. The next morning, my skin felt really smooth, soft, and moisturized. Also, I don’t see any new breakouts which is good. Overall, I really like this mask and I think I’ll pick up some more in the future.

Jingle Bomb Bath Fizzer

Bath bombs are a fun way to jazz up a bath! They usually saturate your tub with fragrant, colorful, sometimes fizzy water. They’re a fun alternative to bubbles and there are some great bath bombs for any price level. I recently tried the Jingle Bomb Bath Fizzer from Da Bomb which can be purchased from Target for $5.

This is a one-time-use type of product, so keep in mind that the $5 will only be for one bath. Still, this definitely puts this bath bomb in the medium price range (there are some other bath bombs you can get at Target and drugstores for about $1-2 per bath bomb but there are also $10-15 bath bombs from places like Lush).

I love that this one is holiday themed. I’m the type of person who celebrates Christmas for all of November and December because I love it so much and I want as much Christmas as I can get! This bath bomb definitely promotes the holiday spirit with its winterberry scent. I’ll be honest – I thought winterberry was something that they made up, but it’s actually a type of holly also known as Ilex Verticillata (and that it definitely what it smells like – holly + a Christmas tree!) The fragrance was so lovely, and it was strong enough that I could smell it easily during the entire bath without it feeling overwhelming.

The bath bomb also made the water in the tub a beautiful shade of evergreen, which I really liked. However, it did not stain the tub afterwards, which was a big plus because I’ve used other bath bombs that left a gross residue in the bathtub! Some bath bombs also tend to dry out or irritate the skin, but that was not the case with this one. After the bath, my skin didn’t feel dry at all and felt a bit more  moisturized actually, so I’m guessing there’s some sort of oil in the bath bomb. Also, it’s gluten-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, phthalate-free, and vegan (so it’s a nice, gentle product on skin).

Finally, Da Bomb bath bombs always advertise “a surprise inside” which I think is so fun! So, as the bath bomb fizzed and got smaller, it revealed this cute little festive charm:

I haven’t used any other bath bombs from Da Bomb, but I definitely plan to in the future because this was such a fun, relaxing experience. I can’t wait to see what other surprises I get in the other bath bombs! This is one product that I highly recommend!

Have you tried any bath bombs that you absolutely love? Let me know in the comments section!

I can’t believe this is the last day of November. That means that Blogmas starts tomorrow, so stay tuned for 24 days of blogging about my Sephora advent calendar (plus, a bonus post because I’m going to my very first FASHION SHOW tomorrow!)

Milk Makeup Cooling Water

I love trying new, innovative products and recently received a sample for the Milk Makeup Cooling Water which can be purchased from Sephora for $24.

So, first I’ll just admit that even after reading the description and using this product, I just don’t get it! Sephora’s website describes this as, “A soothing seawater, caffeine-infused gel stick to de-puff eyes and energize the look of skin.” I tried using this on various parts of my face, and it is kind of neat that this product always feels cool to the touch, but it just didn’t do anything for me. It felt oddly sticky and tacky and just felt weird no matter where I tried to put it (under my eyes, on the dry skin of my cheeks, on the oily skin of my forehead, etc). It’s really hard to put makeup on top of this product and it ruins the makeup if you put this on top of makeup. This did not de-puff under my eyes or energize me in any way. The only thing it really seems to do is cool the skin (but you don’t need to spend $24 to cool down your skin when you can just open the freezer door or sit close to an air conditioner).

So, this one was definitely a bust for me! Did any of you have a good experience with this product? Please, let me know in the comments section. Maybe you’ll be able to convince me to give it another try before I throw it away.

Before I go, I did want to let you know about an exciting series I’m about to start on this blog: Blogmas! For those of you who don’t know, Blogmas is where bloggers blog every day in December leading up to Christmas. I recently purchased the Sephora Advent Calendar (already sold out for the season), which comes with 24 small beauty-themed gifts from Sephora! So, for the first 24 days in December, I’m going to reveal and review the fun little gifts that come in the advent calendar.

GlamGlow Supermud Clearing Treatment Mask

My obsession with face masks continues as I try to find the perfect one to clear up my skin without causing dryness. Recently, I decided to try the cult favorite GlamGlow Supermud Clearing Treatment Mask which can be purchased from Sephora for $69 per 1.7 oz container.

I definitely like this mask, but I just don’t think that the payoff ends up justifying the price. I bought the trial sized version which is $25 for a small 0.5 oz container, and I’m so glad I got the small version instead of the full-priced $69 container. I do think that this mask helped my skin a little bit – my skin seemed a little clearer the next morning. However, my skin also felt pretty dry afterwards. I liked that there were some exfoliating properties, which did leave parts my skin looking and feeling smoother, but I also ended up getting some dry patches of skin on my cheeks after using this product.

Overall, this is a pretty good mask for acne-prone skin, but it’s not the best (which is Boscia’s Luminizing Black Mask in my opinion). It’s also just ridiculously expensive for the amount of product you receive. This might be a fun one-time splurge, but I don’t think it’s really a staple that I’ll ever need to repurchase.

What are some of the most expensive masks you’ve tried? Were they worth the price tag or just overhyped? Please, let me know in the comments section!

The Top 10 Products I’m Thankful For

Thanksgiving is tomorrow, and this time of the year is a time for us to be thankful for all the things and people that we’re blessed to have in our lives. Of course, I’m so incredibly grateful for my friends, family, Josh, a job that I love, and so much more! I’m also so very thankful for my readers (that’s you!) because you make blogging so much fun as we share our favorite products and navigate the worlds of beauty and fashion together. So, I thought I’d share with you the top 10 products that I’m thankful for:

Product #1: Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Day Tint

This tinted moisturizer is the best tinted moisturizer I’ve ever used. It blurs and conceals my imperfections and makes my skin look so much better after each use. This is the perfect blend of makeup and skincare.

Product #2: Dior Addict Lipsticks

This is the one lipstick range that I return to over and over again. I’ve purchased so many of them because they’re just the best – longwearing without being at all drying. The colors are so pretty and the buttery formula is divine.

Product #3: Tangle Teezer Brush

After I shower, my long hair is always tangled, and this is the best brush in the world to easily (and painlessly!) remove all the tangles.

Product #4: Make Up Forever Ultra HD Foundation

This medium-coverage foundation blends so well and covers all my imperfections. It lasts all day long and is my go-to foundation whenever I need that extra boost of skin confidence.

Product #5: Boscia Luminizing Black Mask

My acne responds so well to this product. Every time I use this product, my zits look noticeably reduced the next morning.

Product #6: Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm

Removing waterproof eye makeup has never been easier than with this product. It’s so gentle but effective and never leaves a weird residue.

Product #7: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

The harshest of winters is no match to this lip mask. This thick mask can be used overnight or at any time of day for an instant dose of moisture. Chapped lips won’t stand a chance.

Product #8: BareMinerals Stroke of Light Eye Brightener

This concealer is my favorite for covering my dark under eye circles. It makes me look more awake and never settles into fine lines or looks caked on or unnatural.

Product #9: Hourglass Strobe Lighting Powder

This subtle but beautiful glow is amazing! This product highlights like a dream and is perfect for contouring.

Product #10: Bumble and Bumble Grooming Creme

Whenever my hair looks dry, frizzy, or is just rebelling, I know this creme will tame it in an instant and make it look smooth and shiny without looking at all greasy.

So, what products are you most thankful for? Be sure to let me know in the comments section!

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet

‘Tis the season for dry skin! I don’t know about where you live, but in Cincinnati we unfortunately skipped autumn this year and went straight to winter. The cold air is already causing dry skin, so I wanted to use this opportunity to talk about one of my very favorite moisturizers: the Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet (available from Sephora for $39 for a 1.3 oz container).

I love this moisturizer so much, that I’ve purchased the full-sized version several times, and I also use my Sephora Beauty Insider points to score sample-sized bottles, and I get excited when I see this appear in my Sephora Play beauty box as well! I’m definitely devoted to this one! One of the great things about this moisturizer is that a little bit goes a long way, so the price tag isn’t that scary when I consider how much use I get out of one bottle. Also, this product never breaks out my skin! It’s super natural and smells of grapeseed oil (one of its main ingredients).

I find that this moisturizer works well year-round. You can use a small amount in the summer and a larger amount in the winter for a great year-round glow. It sinks in so easily and doesn’t leave a weird oily residue like some moisturizers tend to do. Overall, I’ve just found that this is one of the very best moisturizers for my particular skin (which is combination that tends toward oilness sometimes). Now, I will admit that if you have very dry skin, this might not be the best product for you because it’s a lighter moisturizer, but I think you’ll like this one if you have skin like mine!

Kate Somerville EradiKate

I’m always looking for new ways to banish blemishes. My skin has been looking a lot better recently, but certain times of the month will cause a few unsightly zits. I recently decided to try the Kate Somerville EradiKate Acne Treatment which can be purchased from Sephora for $26.

I have used this product before, but it was so long ago that I wanted to try it again. I thought I remembered it working for me, but I couldn’t remember why I didn’t repurchase it. I’m really glad I gave it a second chance. This is a great spot treatment that definitely shortens the lifetime of a blemish. However, there are two downsides: 1. It can be drying for sure, so try to only use it on the smallest amount of skin possible. 2. It smells really bad. That’s because one of its main ingredients in sulfur. Sulfur is amazing for acne-prone skin but it smells pretty bad.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this product! If you can get over the smell and you moisturize after use, hopefully you’ll have great results.

Clinique Pep-Start Hydroblur Moisturizer

It’s going to be winter soon! This means that moisturizer is going to become extra important in any skincare routine (although, it really should be important year-round). I recently tried a different moisturizer: the Clinique Pep-Start Hydroblur Moisturizer which can be purchased from Sephora for $30.

One great thing about the Clinique brand is that they have great, quality products for more affordable prices than other Sephora-based brands. I find that this moisturizer is no exception. It does a great job at moisturizing and would work well as a primer. The “blur” effect is noticeable and allows makeup to sit really well on the skin. It fills in all the nooks and crannies that pop up on a face to create a smooth canvas.

I do think that this is a lighter moisturizer. Some people with dry skin might find that it doesn’t quite pack enough of a punch for them. My skin is pretty normal/combination and does not get extremely dry, so I find that it works well for me. I would think that it would be a good moisturizer for oily skin as well because the “blur” properties also make it look a bit mattified even though it’s moisturizing.

Have you tried this one? What’s your current go-to moisturizer? Be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Tonymoly Hydrating Lotus Sheet Mask

Sheet masks are a fun way to relax at the end of a hard day. They provide lots of skincare benefits, but they tend to be very gentle on the skin. Recently, I tried this adorable Pokemon-themed sheet mask: the Tonymoly Lotus Hydrating Sheet Mask. You can get this sheet mask for about $5 at Walmart and similar retailers.

First off, I really liked this sheet mask because it actually made my skin feel incredibly moisturized. It had a very soothing quality and left my skin looking more supple and feeling more hydrated. Anyone with dry skin will definitely love this one!

There were two drawbacks though. First, it was kind of hard to unfold this mask and apply it because it was so slippery and wet. Secondly, also in relation to the wetness, I found that this mask dripped a lot which is not something I’m used to with sheet masks. I didn’t mind that it dripped from my chin to my chest, but it was irritating how it dripped in my nose area. I felt like I was inhaling it, and I kept trying to brush it away from this area. I’m not sure why there was so much product saturating this mask. I haven’t noticed this in other Tonymoly masks that I’ve used.

Have you used this one? What’s your favorite sheet mask? Please, let me know in the comment section!

Clean & Clear Deep Action Oil-Free Cream Cleanser

The other day, I was at the drugstore walking through the skincare aisle. Of all the expensive and inexpensive cleansers I’ve used over the years, I’ve never found one that I feel particularly loyal to. I have never used a cleanser that seemed to be solely responsible for helping my skin. In fact, most of the time, nothing changes about my skin when I change cleansers. Because of that, I’ve become a bit disillusioned when it comes to cleansers. As long as my skin feels clean at the end of the day, I’m pretty happy. Because of that, I decided to take a chance on a $5 cleanser from the drugstore: the Clean & Clear Deep Action Oil-Free Cream Cleanser.

This cleanser promises a tingling sensation which I thought was odd. Usually, you don’t want your skincare to burn you or cause tingling sensations. However, this just kind of makes your skin feel cold and minty. I don’t know if it is cleansing my pores more deeply, but I do love the scent. It’s kind of minty mixed with something else (maybe eucalyptus?)

The main attraction of this cleanser is that it is oil-free. I know that lots of people with acne-prone skin find that certain oils can help their acne, but I find that almost anything with oil breaks me out further. I’m happy to report that this cleanser has not caused my acne to get worse at all. I don’t think it’s making it any better though either.

Overall, I like this cleanser. My skin feels clean after I use it, it smells great, and it’s only $5. Will I repurchase it? Probably not. As I said at the beginning of this post, I don’t yet have any loyalty towards one specific cleanser.

What about you? Do you have a holy grail cleanser that you absolutely swear by? I’d love to know!
