Trend Alert: Off-the-Shoulder

Spring and summer are seasons filled with fun fashion trends. One that I’m really loving right now is the Off-the-Shoulder look (and the hybrid cold-shoulder tops). Here are my favorite picks from New York & Company:

First up, we have the Floral Ruffled Cold-Shoulder Top, which retails for $44.95 (but is currently on sale for $24.99). I love the color of this one, plus the pop of color from the floral design is really cute. Best of all, I love the ruffles, which are a fun twist on this trend.

Next up, we have the Black Stripe Off-the-Shoulder Top, which retails for $42.95. I love the bohemian vibe from this top and the whimsical fringe detailing. Plus, the stripes look super slimming!

Here we have the Flounced Cold-Shoulder Blouse, which retails for $44.95 (but is on sale right now for $26.97). I love the sweeping romantic feel of this top. Also, the white is perfect and can be paired with any fun patterned skirt or pants.

Next, we have this bold Cold-Shoulder Halter Blouse, which retails for $44.95 (but is on sale for $26.97). Not only is the color amazing, but the cut of the neckline is fantastic. I love the combination of the halter and off-shoulder trends here.

Finally, we have my very favorite pick of the bunch: the Floral & Stripe Cold-Shoulder Blouse, which retails for $49.95 (but is on sale for $29.97). This pattern is just adorable, and the structure of the top looks forgiving for curvy gals like me.

Spring Dresses for Garden Parties and More

I love dresses for spring, especially if they’re colorful or floral. I’ve seen so many great dresses for this spring season, and I’m loving the color and pattern trends. Here are my top picks for dresses you can wear to garden parties or other fun outdoor events:

Credit: New York and Company

I love this first dress because of the ruffles. They’re such a fun, feminine detail that really stands out here.

Color blocking is also a great trend for spring. It’s a nice twist on traditional stripes, and I love the lavender shade of this particular dress too.

A fitted a-line frock is also very flattering for curvy forms, and I love the pop of pink color that this one provides. It’s perfect for spring!

Florals are trendy every spring, but I love this jungle-inspired take on the trend. It’s really fun and exotic.

This last dress is a more traditional floral pattern, but I love how bold and oversized the blooms are here. It’s a really eye-catching print.

All of these dresses can be purchased from New York & Company‘s website if you’re interested. They always have a great collection of trendy dresses for budget-friendly prices!

Top 5 Hats from the 2018 Kentucky Derby

Yesterday was the Kentucky Derby! I’m terrified of horses, but I’d love to go someday so that I can just admire all of the fashions. Being in Cincinnati, it’s just a short drive away, so maybe next year!

Anyway, while I wasn’t there in person, I did scour the internet for a glimpse of some of the fabulous hats, and I wanted to share my top five favorites:

1. This first one is my top pick. I love the black and white. It’s classy but really dramatic. The matching feathers also work so well. This is a quintessential Kentucky Derby hat!

2. I also love a pop of color! This lavender hat was amazing for Spring. I don’t quite understand the orange plumes on the side, but overall this is a really neat hat.

3. This third hat really works for me because it’s dramatic but neutral. It would seem way too extreme if it was in a brighter color, but the demure tones help the overall look to come together. I’d love to try this one on!

4. I’m totally biased towards this hat because it looks like an exaggerated version of the fascinator I purchased to wear for the royal wedding (I have not been invited but I am throwing my own party that day to celebrate). It’s pink, so of course I love it!

5. Last, but not least, we have our most dramatic hat! It’s like the Kentucky Derby meets Coachella! This is an example of a deliberately over-the-top hat, and while it’s not one that I would feel comfortable wearing, I definitely respect it and admire the rose detailing. It also kind of looks like a dream catcher, which I find interesting.

Trend Alert: Strappy Sandals for Spring

Spring is finally here! It’s felt so nice to finally be able to wear capris and sandals at work. As someone who is always warm, I’m tempted to wear capris in winter but I get a lot of side-eye when I do, so I try to dress appropriately. But Spring and Summer are my seasons!

Naturally, as the seasons change, I find myself needing new shoes. Well, “need” might be a strong word, but I’m sure you understand the feeling. I’ve been shopping and I’ve noticed a major trend right now: strappy sandals this spring that have thicker straps. Here are some that I found from DSW that I’m definitely considering purchasing:

These first shoes are the Sam Edelman Susie Sandal which are $69.99. I love the medium blue suede because they’re definitely not similar to anything I already own. These would be so cute paired with a white sundress.

These next shoes would have been so cute for Easter. They’re the Marc Fisher Kickoff Wedge Sandal which are also $69.99. The light pink shade is gorgeous, and the ruffle is sweet and feminine.

I love red! It’s sensual and vibrant and makes everyone take notice. That’s probably why I’ve got my eyes on the Unisa Diane Sandal which retails for only $39.99

This next one is pretty whimsical. It’s the Crown Vintage Accumoli Sandal for $39.99. I don’t know why, but I’m drawn to the contrasting straps. Since they’re all neutrals, they can be easily paired with other neutrals. It’s eclectic but fun!

This final shoe is my favorite and not just because it’s pink! This is the Diba Gizmo Flat Sandal which is only $29.99 I love the structure of this shoe and its dramatic front bow. The ribbing on the sides is also a nice textural detail.

Spring Bridal Trend: Full Skirts

While my engagement didn’t quite work out and I’m a single lady again, I was still excited to see the latest in Bridal Fashion that has come out over the last few weeks. Even though it is 2018, these were all shows for Spring 2019. Fashion shows are always so ahead of real life! Still, one trend I couldn’t help but notice is that so many designers used very full skirts in their bridal fashions this year. I thought I would put together a few of my favorites from shows that were posted on Vogue Runway, a great resources for those who want to stay on top of couture.

This first dress is from Elie Saab. Not only is this a gorgeous set for photo shoots, but I also love the floral embellishments on the bodice of this dress as well as the softer embellishments woven into the full tulle skirt.

This next dress is from Temperley London. While the skirt is still full, I love the mermaid style and the cascading lace in the front. Also, the lingerie-inspired bodice is a daring but beautiful choice.

This third one is from Marchesa. The fullness of this skirt is reminiscent of a wedding cake, and I like how the floral embellishments seem to be dripping between the layers of dress.

Next, we have another super dramatic skirt courtesy of Viktor & Rolf. The ruffled edging of each dress layer is stunning, although I imagine this works better for a runway than walking down the aisle of a real wedding.

Our penultimate dress is from Monique Lhuillier. This one looks like a complete fantasy to me. It gives me major Disney Princess vibes, and I adore the long train that accompanies this full skirt.

Finally, we have this dress from Jenny Packham, one of Duchess Kate’s favorite designers. The halter neckline and bodice are very reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe, and the full skirt is more delicate than the others and feels very romantic.

Fashion Finds: Floral Spring Dresses!

It is freezing right now in Cincinnati, but it is still technically spring! Hopefully, it will warm up soon. And when it does, I will be ready to wear a chic floral spring dress. Yes, it may be slightly cliche to wear floral dresses for spring, but it is just so fun and makes me feel excited about the changing seasons.

So, here are three budget-friendly dresses that I’ve found that I think will make perfect additions to a new spring wardrobe.

  1. Floral Dress from H&M – $39.99

I think this one if just so gorgeous and interesting. I love the patterns and the balance between the light top half and dark bottom half. This could be paired with a blazer and heels for a chic office look or you could keep it casual and simple with a top knot and some sandals. I think this is just a versatile dress.

2. The Story of Citrus Dress in Noir Blossom from ModCloth – $41.99

Come on, people. How adorable is this neckline? It’s just so cute, and I love the pink flowers paired with the belt to cinch the waist in naturally. This one is on clearance though, so buy it fast before it is permanently out of stock!

3. Nine West Floral-Print Fit & Flare Dress from Macys – $79.00

I have a thing for black and white with pink accents (that is, after all, the color scheme of my apartment!) So, this dress is, for sure, one of my favorites. I love how it ends right above the knees. It’s conservative enough for the office without looking matronly. I also love the flare.
