Too Faced Melted Latex Lipstick Fail!

I love dramatic lipsticks, but they don’t all love me back! Recently, I was shopping online at Sephora and I saw that they had a sale on the Too Faced Melted Latex lipsticks. They were only $10, and I’ve had great luck with these before. I wanted to go for something really bold, so I went for the deep red shade “Bite Me.”

I was so looking forward to this one. I envisioned myself turning heads with my dramatic red/wine lips like a vintage movie starlet. Alas, that was not meant to be. When the lipstick arrived, I instantly knew something was wrong. I did receive the right shade, but instead of a reddish wine, it looked like a dark brown. Still, I paid $10 so I was going to give it a go.

I looked like a cartoon villain dressed up for Halloween. Not only was the color all wrong, but the opacity was terrible. It was a very uneven product and it took a lot of effort to make the color look evenly distributed. I wore it while shopping that night and I felt a lot of stares but not the kind I had hoped for.

The next day, I brought it to work. When things got slow, I went to the bathroom to try it on again, but my trusty coworkers assured me that it needed to be removed ASAP.

I did learn a few things from this experience though:

  1. Whenever possible, test a lipstick shade in person instead of just guessing based on the picture posted on the website.
  2. Sometimes things are on sale for a reason.
  3. Always have a backup lipstick in your purse when testing something so risky.

Not all makeup risks pan out, but it’s still fun to try sometimes. Still, this is a shade that’s getting tossed for sure!

Too Faced Shadow Insurance

Eyeshadow primer is a must if you want to keep your eyeshadow from creasing. It also allows eye makeup to last longer before starting to fade away. There are so many great primers on the market, but I recently had the chance to try the Too Faced Shadow Insurance. This product can be purchased from Sephora and similar retailers for $20.

I’ve been really loving this product! It’s a bit cheaper than the Urban Decay Primer Potion, and it works just as well. When I wear this, my makeup lasts all day and I never experience any creasing, even with cream shadows. I also love how quickly this dries down on the lids. It creates a great, smooth canvas. The only thing I might like to see would be if this could moisturize a bit like UD’s anti-aging primer. Overall, though, this product seems fantastic, and I’ll definitely be repurchasing. I love that I only need a teeny tiny amount for this to work all day, so the tube is definitely going to last for a very long time. It’s absolutely worth the $20!

Have you tried this one or do you have a favorite eyeshadow primer? If so, be sure to let me know in the comment section!

Too Faced Melted Latex Lipstick

I’ve been wanting bold lips lately. I know that liquid lipsticks are supposed to make it easier to have long-lasting bold lips, but I find so many of them to be way too dry to be comfortable for all-day wear. But recently, I decided to try the Too Faced Melted Latex Lipstick. This product can be purchased from Sephora ON SALE for just $10!

First, I was so impressed by this product. It was so easy to use. Just one coat gave an even, opaque look on the lips. It felt pretty soft of the lips too, and while it was relatively long-lasting, it did not make my lips feel too dry. Also, there was a glossy finish instead of a matte finish, which I definitely prefer.

The color did not last all day, and I reapplied around lunch since eating seemed to remove most of it, but I was still pleased with the outcome. By the end of the day, it had faded quite a bit, but it faded pretty evenly.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this to people who want a long-wear liquid lipstick but do not want their lips to get overly dry. You will have to touch it up at least once throughout the day, but I think that’s worth it in exchange for lips that aren’t too dry.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Oil Gloss

Glosses that are oil-based are some of my favorites because oil makes glosses a lot less sticky! Recently, I received a sample of the Too Faced Sweet Peach Oil Gloss which can be purchased in full size from Sephora for $13.

This is definitely a great lipgloss, especially if you’re looking for a moisturizing neutral. All of the colors in this range are pretty neutral because the shades are so sheer. So, if you’re looking for a deep colored gloss, this isn’t the range for you. However, this is a great neutral range.

One great thing about this product is that, like most oil-based glosses, this one is not sticky! I don’t know about you, but I hate when lip gloss is sticky. It makes me distracted all day long when my lips are sticky, and I also feel like stickier consistencies make glosses look worse. Sticky glosses somehow make lips look flakier (even when they’re not particularly dry) because they don’t wear evenly. However, this gloss looks great and fades evenly because of it’s oiliness.

Also, like the rest of Too Faced’s Sweet Peach product series, this gloss smells like peach! Now, I can’t say that it smells entirely natural. It smells more like synthetic peach candy, but overall it’s still a really nice scent.

I definitely recommend this one!

Too Faced Glitter Bomb Eyeshadow Collection

Full disclosure: I love glitter and I am utterly biased towards products that contain glitter. So, when I saw the Too Faced Glitter Bomb Eyeshadow Collection at Sephora, I didn’t blink at the $45 price tag and immediately purchased it!

A lot of beauty bloggers have complained about this palette, so I’d just like to start by addressing their two complaints. First, people have been complaining that the colors aren’t pigmented enough. I love these pigments! They are very buildable and you can use water or the black base to intensify the colors. Second, people complain about glitter fallout. There is some fallout (unless you apply with water – more explanation of that later) but I don’t care because I love glitter. If I see flecks of glitter on my cheeks during the afternoon because of this eyeshadow, I am totally okay with that because it’s just the sparkle and not the color that has been migrating.

So, now I’m going to explain the three different ways that you can apply these:

  1. Apply the glitter eyeshadows by themselves with a brush – this results in a sheer wash of color with lots of sparkle. This is perfect for daytime looks. Yes, there will be some fallout of glitter, but you can just imagine that it’s some extra highlight on your cheeks.
  2. Apply the glitter eyeshadows on top of the white or black bases – this will intensify the colors. The white will brighten up the color and enhance the glitter while the black will intensify the color and make it much darker and more dramatic. I was terrified to do this at first because black is such a harsh color, but it worked so well. First, I applied the white base on my lid from the crease to the brow bone and then covered it with the shade “Fairy Dust.” Then I applied the black on every part of the eyelid below the crease and then put the shade “Glitter Goals” on top. It was so vivid! Yes, there was still some fallout, but I loved my super dramatic evening look.
  3. Apply the glitter eyeshadows with a wet brush – this really intensifies the glitter and color without making it darker. The water (or you can use makeup setting spray instead) fuses with the glitter like a glue and can help to prevent fallout. It also leaves a more crystalline look for maximum glitter impact!

I have absolutely zero regrets about buying this palette! Will I use it every day? No. But I love it for when I want to experiment with more dramatic colors. I highly recommend it for glitter enthusiasts like myself.

Too Faced Melted Lipstick

The absolute worst thing about long-wearing lipsticks is that they are overly drying. Currently, I’m embarking on a quest to find lasting products that do not dry my lips and make me look like a wrinkled glamorous zombie. Right now, I’ve been wearing and enjoying the Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick. I’m not certain if this product has won an award for having the longest possible name, but it very well might.

too faced melted lipstick
So pretty, but this color was discontinued 😦

The product squeezes out like a gloss, but it is definitely a lipstick in texture. It is pretty matte and it really only takes one swipe for you to get an intense amount of color. It’s priced at $21 a tube, which isn’t bad if you’re used to buying lip products at Sephora. And, honestly, this blows away every long-wearing lipstick I’ve ever tried at a drugstore, and those can often be $14-$16 dollars anyway. So, I do think it is worth the Sephora splurge.

So, should you buy it?

Pros: While it is a little drying, it is not nearly as drying as most long-wear lipsticks. It does last for many hours. I have worn this to work and have sipped lots of water with minimal product transfer on my cup. I did have to reapply after eating lunch, but there was still a hint of color before I reapplied. Also, the coverage was incredible. I loved that it was so easy to apply evenly and it dried really quickly. I did not use a lip liner, but it never did migrate away from my lip line.

Cons: I love a bold a lip, and this product delivers! However, this will definitely scare some people aware because it is not buildable and cannot be applied lightly with a light hand. When you apply this product, it is intense and bold. If you’re looking for a more demure, muted look, this product is not for you. Also, I noticed that as it wore away, the color did not fade evenly. There was a patch of more concentrated color on the inner portion of my lower lip which looked a little weird although I’m not sure it was all that noticeable to others. I probably could have prevented this by reapplying more than just once throughout the day, but that would have defeated the purpose of having a long-wear lipstick which is supposed to last all day!

Overall, I really like this product, and since they’ve discontinued the one color I own and love, I think I’ll have to purchase some more shades. I’m thinking about buying the shade “Melted Jelly Donut” because I think that is the closest to the one I own (see picture above). If you love a bold lip, give this product a try!

Update: I went to Sephora’s Play! Date at the Kenwood mall on Wednesday night. It was so much fun! I got to meet some cool fellow beauty junkies and some really nice employees (shout out to Christoper, Greg, and Lacey – you guys were great!)
